This fully agree. Legal consultation for the compensation to include all out of pocket expenses.
Don't accept first offer unless you're completely happy that injuries will have no long term lasting consequences.

If it was a gas board vehicle it will be insured via their policies so regardless of driver co-operation it will have to go through the correct channels.

Re: Hi :)

I was also going to suggest a gravel bike. Look at Decathlon for a decent budget new bike, or as suggested a recycle charity where the bike has been done up and serviced.

Start slow and build up.

Re: Run in with some unpleasant road users

I missed seeing this yesterday. I am glad you have reported it.
Whatever anyone else says this is assault, years ago when I used to commute home on the days that the Royal Show used to be on, I've had oiks throw beer cans at me... luckily they were lousy shots. A few years back I was hit on the back by clod of earth from a gardeners van... I knew who had done as I passed the van and the lads at a pub a couple of miles previously... unfortunately i had no proof though the policeman I reported it to did take it seriously.
More recently 11 of us were shot at during a time trial, none of us realised what was happening nor did we know so many others had been similarly affected until we had finished the event and swapped stories at the HQ. None of us had evidence.
On another commute a few years ago in slower traffic I was whacked on the behind by a passenger.... sadly no evidence but traffic was slow enough to enable to get the full reg, and report to the police who did take it seriously and took all 4 lads in to be questioned..... naturally they all denied it.... but police were quite concerned because someone else (a jogger) had similarly reported being hit.

This is an assault that could lead to other assaults and these people need to know we will report them

pwa wrote: 20 Apr 2023, 5:14pm Here in the Bridgend area of South Wales I have been dismayed, over the winter, by the density of litter alongside some busy roads. I know we see it more in winter, with less foliage to hide it, but I'm sure it has never been this bad before. Maybe there has been a cut in council litter picking with the ongoing financial squeeze.
Definite cut in council cleaning, I can't remember when we last saw a road sweeper down my street, and we are regularly clearing the detritus left by last autumn's leaf drop, and that's without all the local litter picks we do... I've even heard that they are selling off some of the road sweepers.

Re: Litter Pick

We litter pick locally and pick up sometimes when at the top of climbs in mallorca.
Try driving up the A1(M)... it's appauling....
A few years driving down it on a windy day there was sheets of plastic caught on trees and the roadside.... most of it coming off the local farmer's fields.
In the 'good ole days' many items were in paper bags (or chips wrapped in newspaper) paper didn't linger the way all the cans and plastic takeaway items currently do, it rotted down more.
But it's certainly a problem that is getting worse, even in Mallorca, previously fairly clean... the litter seems to be increasing.

Re: Are you still using paper maps? Why?

Love paper maps, I only have vague ideas of routes, can change at whim while perusing the maps... enjoy watching the countryside and features on the map unfold as I pass through.... and it doesn't crash, loose satellites, or need a battery.

Re: Child seat on 28mm tyres

To be honest I only ever used a touring bike with 25-28 tyres when I cycled with a child seat and never considered using anything wider... as long as they are pumped up...

Re: Child on tandem for 40 miles

My son was on the rear of tandem from 3.5yrs, with kiddy cranks and framework built out of handlebars and broom handles so he had various hand positions.
He had no choice but to pedal, even a couple of times when he fell asleep because we were having a sllghtly longer due to not finding a suitable camp spot.
He could certainly manage more than 40 miles on the back of the tandem by the time he was 8, we always tried to keep it interesting, steam train visits, parks, ... anything he could look at and learn about...
Now he pays me back by dropping me....... you have been warned.....

The having to pedal when the captain pedalled wasn't a problem, and in fact you get excellent feedback as to how much effort they're putting in and can "suggest" when a bit more is expected!

Yes. We shout "Turbo!".

Jonathan

Ha ha ha, that's what I did when grinding up a climb... and just toward to the top when I needed a bit extra umph... used to ask my lad to power up the turbo charge.... his extra kick helped ease over the last bit of a climb on a tour of Scotland.
