Camping along the C2C and Reivers Way

Hi All

I am planning a trip from Whitehaven along the C2C to Tynemouth then back via the Reivers Way to Whitehaven.

I would prefer to camp each night within distance of a pub for a decent meal each night. Hey its a holiday :D

Any suggestions for campsites?

I'd like those details please. Hoping to do this route in the next month or so.

Your right about the OSM, but for free one cant complain.

I ordered tracklogs yesterday lunchtime and they arrived this morning, how's that for service!

Thanks Meic.

I have used the tracklogs trial, its useful. I quite like the software so I've gone and ordered a map. ( dont tell the missus :) )

Bikehike looks quite good, but my internet connection makes things very slow. I would also like the advantage of being able to look at mapping when off line so Tracklogs it is!

Have not looked up the length of the route. It was just the simplest way looking at the sustran map of the uk.

Still looking at it. I was hoping for comments from people who had ridden parts of it as to how hilly etc it was such as robgul's.

Time is not too critical for me but I dont want to be climbing hills ALL the way :)

Any comments on this proposed route. In particular the NCN Route 1 on the east of Scotland?

Route 3. Lands End to Bristol
Route 41 Bristol to Gloucester
Route 45 Gloucester to Chester
Chester to route 62.
Route 62 to 68 east of Hadfield
Route 68 to Berwick upon Tweed
Route 1 Berwick upon Tweed to John O'Groats via Aberdeen

Cheers

My pressie this xmas was a Garmin Legend HCx. The base maps, as have already been pointed out are crap.

I've used the links kindly provided above to install the opencyclemap on it and first impressions are good.

Been considering buying Tracklog to plan routes on the laptop and transfer to the Garmin etc.

Thanks again for the links 1LegRikk. :D

Good point.

But they help you plan a route, just have to use your brain to choose the way :)

Had not picked up that it was auto routing that was needed. Each to their own 8)

I'm new to touring this year and bought a Super Galaxy from Spa Cycles. As my experience is somewhat limited you may wish to speak with others but to be fair I have found the bike to be pretty good. The only real issue I have with it is the brakes and that is an area I might upgrade in the future and they may be upgraded on the Ultra anyway.

In the 10 months I have had it I have done 1200 miles including my first ever tour, The Lon Las Cymru, and although fully laden it did the job without complaint.

But do take the advice of previous posters and look around, I actually now fancy a Chas Roberts tourer.....who said cycling saved you money! 8)

Sustrans route LE2JOG?

Has anyone ever worked out such a route? Staying on Sustrans waymarked routes all the way.

Just wondered if it could be done.
