Re: Speed Awareness Course

Self-serving in what way? It's very easy to obey the speed limits It's as easy as riding a bike. I dont fall off my bike because I pay attention to not doing so. However I might fall off my bike one day. Same with obeying the speed limits, its easy to do but I am not arrogant enough to think that I ...

Re: Speed Awareness Course

To be absolutely sure that would have to be 20mph.
Also a cruise control that can apply brakes as well as controlling the throttle.

Re: Speed Awareness Course

Also a lot more different speed zones.
When I moved here it was 60mph from my door to Carmarthen's 30mph limit.
Now the speed limit changes a dozen times in that same distance.

Re: Speed Awareness Course

Two million drivers are caught speeding per year. I havent had a ticket since the 1980s but it could happen to me tomorrow if I was driving somewhere new or they changed the limit on a regular route. Some drivers get a ticket because they are always speeding. Some drivers obey the law to the best of...

Re: The (ir)responsibily of the Media

There is no protection under law but plenty of protection under social pressure.
Like the editor who just got sacked for his Vegan jokes. Which I wasnt bothered by in the least, even though I would consider myself on the vegan side of any lines that he was drawing.

Re: Public Places Protection order bans cycling on NCN route

What needs to be remembered is that it is local Councils that decide these routes. They then become an NCN by default That sometimes happens. It isnt the norm though and really it is supposed to be Sustrans who decide what is or isnt an NCN route. They tend to co-operate and do each others job to s...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

It's all very well, saying the the result should be respected, but after two years, no one can agree what that means. That being so, it would be best to interpret the referendum in a way that doesn't destroy the country. The opposite of how some others it, who have interpreted the referendum as an ...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

The electorate is familiar with feelings of betrayal, and on this it should be no different. That is because normally the election is totally stitched up and the voters have no credible option but the two sides of the same coin. However on this occasion there was a third option and enough voters to...

[ It's an easy check to make though - a minute or so if you have a Govt Gateway login, slightly longer if you have to register first. AFAIK this Government Gateway malarkey is quite a recent thing. If you find it easy and fruitful can I assume you have a passport or maybe a picture driving licence?...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Look on the other side, if Corbyn had won the general election, then it is certain that the Tory opposition leader would be playing exactly the same games.

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

OK, Meic, what do you think MPs should do in the current circumstances as you perceive them? That is probably above my level. I am having enough hard work trying to understand what is happening, if you get too invested in what should happen and start taking a side, you lose your impartiality and ob...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

A "least damage" route is quite compatible with the various manifesto promises made. That is not what is happening and hence the increased division. That is something of a judgement call. "No deal" would just about meet everybody's idea of qualifying as having left, even if not ...

It isnt a real world scenario. Well thanks a lot for that diversion. What do you think MPs should do in a "real world scenario"? You set up the diversion and I was following it. https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=108977&start=8145#p1292766 You suggested that the MPs ...

No, I think it is what MPs should do if they suddenly have an outbreak of morality.
It isnt a real world scenario.
