Two mapping Site same route different Mileages

:?:

Hi all

I have created what appear to be the same routes on one Bike Toaster and the other in bike hike.

Both appear to be the same route but the mileages are 20% out one show 60 and other 49 ? I have hours on this and have basiscally given up now.....

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=110490

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=110490

Both routes have been copied into Bike Toaster for easy of access.

Would be grateful for any comments on what is happening

Many thanks

Accomodation Recommendations

Hi all

When I first starting planning my route I envisaged staying in YHA hostels so I could dry out if the weather was bad.

However I am finding it difficult to find YHAs spaced out as required on my route so think I will need to stay at B&Bs etc.

Having problems at the following location so wondered if anyone had any recommendations.

Shap Penrith
Nether Wryesdale
High Legh Chester
New Port Stafford
Radford Worcester

Also what type of accommodation is best B&Bs / Pubs / Cheap Hotels (travel lodges etc)

Would really appreciate any views.

Many thanks

Bike on train which carriage ?

Hi all

I have booked my bike on a couple of different trains (Cross Country and Virgin)

Are there set places/carriages where bikes are stored, don't want to be running up and down the train trying to find the right carriage !

Tried phoning company but people answering the phones could not help.

Any ideas

Many thanks

Bike Toaster Climb Speed

Hi all

On the above website there is an option to slow down on hills when creating a route.

The default show as 25 feet per minute ! is that distance which is not very far or height. Just wondered what figure to use.

Any ideas....many thanks

Booking Bike on train.............nightmare

Well what a nightmare that was booking my bike on a Cross Counrty and Virgin Train.

Total time spent on the phone 2.5 hours for just two trains. Everthing from people telling me there were no bike spaces for the whole of March, having my space cancelled, to being transferred all over the world

Maybe the trains are not interested !

Anyone else had similar problems

Re: Route query just south of Grenta

Big T wrote:If you're heading south, you turn right a few hundred yards after the "Welcome to England - Cumbria" sign, coming out of Gretna. The route follows the motorway for much of the journey to Carlisle and you'll emerge past a large Asda, to the industrial estate mentioned earlier. We did it on a saturday morning and most of Carlisle seemed to doing their shopping at this Asda!

Thanks for all the replies................I will be heading south.

Big T .........is the right turning tou refer to off the Glasgow Road and does that run down to Kingstown Inst Estate. Ie does this mean that there is a path that continues on the section marked on my route marked in post one and there is a crossing to cross the rainway line.

Many thanks

Route query just south of Grenta

Hi all

Really hope someone can help...........

I have a query on a section of south just south of Gretna along side the M6 (left hand side)

On this section s: ee route below there is clearly a small road marked when viewing on a map. When I switch to Satellite I find it hard to see where I actually go ..............it appear to go to the end of a lane (with some houses on the left just before the railway line) and then nothing.

Any ideas if I can cycle along this route and how to cross the bridge and railway line

Bike Toaster Limiting waypoints ?

Hi all

Just founds this site which looks great

Does anyone know if you can reduce the number of way (tracking) points when saving the route as my GPS gets up set if there is to many. This option can be found on the bike hike website under options

Many thanks

I am also in the early part of planning too, I think im going to try and find a mix of busy roads that we can use and smaller ones with a bigger risk of getting lost! For me this will be my first cycle holiday and im looking at the map and cant wait to get started!

Are yuo going to be using paper maps or a gps?

Colin

Colin

I have tried long distance with maps and gps.

I found I can cover twice the distance using a good gps and the basis of not having to stop, read paper maps or getting lost.

Sustans routes are attractive to me as long as they are not to far off my route or not going over major hills.
