John O'Groats to Lands End : Sustrans

Hi all

I am in the early stages of trying to plan my route.

I would like to go JO to LE travelling to west of the Pennines.

If possible I would like to follow minor roads avoiding any really big climbs. On this basis I wondered if there are routes out there that follow or link some of the suntrans routes together ?

Would be great to hear from anyone.

Many thanks for your time

Regards

Accomadation booking up !

Hi all

When people did their trip did you book accommodation in advance or find something at the end of the day ?

I like the idea of having a target but guess the disadvantages are if things go wrong and you are delayed or having the ability to push a bit further on a good day.

Would appreciate any views, thanks for your time and kind regards

Tyre advice please Kenda Nevegal

Hi all

I have a GT Avalanche Expert 2009 Mountain Bike 2009 which came with Kenda Nevegal 26 x 2.1 tyres.

I replaced these some time ago and now want to go back to them but there are so many different types (I disposed of the original ones) such as

Kenda Tomac Nevegal DTC Mountain Bike Tyres
Kenda Tomac Nevegal DTC Folding Mountain Bike Tyres
Kenda Tomac Blue Groove DTC Lite Mountain Bike Tyres

To name just a few !

My riding is a mix of 50 % on road / 40 % cycle tracks / 10 % muddy paths so I am after a general all round tyres / good in the wet / and puncture resistant.

Wondered which would be best in the Kenda Nevegal range ???

Many thanks for your help and time

Marin Point Reyes (09) Slime tube to fit

Hi all

I have the above bike and would like to try some slime tubes over the winter period.

The bike has Sport Contact Tyre Size:26x1.6 but I am having trouble finding a slime tube to fit. They seem to start at 1.75 - 2.125 ?

Any ideas if I can get one to fit.

Many thanks for your time

Kind regards

Does the powerlink fix all or are there different sizes ?

Different sizes 8 / 9 / 10 speed.

But you may still need a chain tool to remove the old broken link.

Sorry for another speed but does the different speed relate to the number of sprockets on the back ie gears ?

Thanks

My set up was two 34 litre panniers on the back of my Marin point reyes which did cause me a few conerns so I have put a front rack on the take some panniers. My question is what size should I idelly put on the front. I am drawn to a set of 16 litres put thought I was ask for people advice and recommendations.

Mobile Phone tracking

Hi all

I wondered if anyone could help on this issue.

I often go off road on my mountain bike or my route takes me off the beaten track from my intended route.......

I do get a bit concerned about having an accident and ending up in a ditch unconscious !

Has anyone tried a tracking service via a mobile phone so is this was to happen I could be located.

Many thanks for your time and kind regards

Re: First Tour any advice

Thanks every one for the great advice. 72 hours to go and I am double checking everything already.

Only thing that slightly concerns me is bike security ! I am not sure wether to lock it hiden away when I stop or lock it up in full view of people to deter theft !

What do people recommend ?

Many thanks for your time
