Prevention is better than cure: if in doubt, have a mechanic whom you trust go over every inch of your bike before you leave. I did this (i.e. I went over the bike myself) and had only one mechanical problem - my computer stopped working. Hardly catastrophic. I'd say independence is the best approa...

Bike Mechanics on LeJoG

Hi all I would really love to do this ride and have enjoyed reading all the great stories here. The only thing that worries me is my bike breaking down, I can fix things like flat tyres but that's about it. I would not be able to change a gear cable or repair a broken chain. What do people think.......
