Hi, are the N roads safe to cycle on in the Irish Republic. I am thinking in particular of the N71 between Bantry and Kenmare.

Planning to cycle the above following Sustrans Routes 73 then 7 to Maybole. Don't want to follow Route 7 inland. Is the A77 south too busy? Would I be better taking back roads e.g. Daily, Old Daily, Pinwherry etc south ? Any advise appreciated.

I think it could be busy with HGV's heading for the Northern Ireland ferry at Cairn Ryan.

Thanks Ianrobbo, I have organised our trip through Lovevelo staying in Costa Adeje, bikes are from Free T3 Motion. We usually go to Mallorca and have done most of the major rides there so looking forward to Tenerife for a change. Will have a look at your rides. Many thanks for the info.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I have decided on Tenerife and go there this February for a fortnight. I know it will be hilly but will give it a go, do what I can do and just enjoy being on the bike.
