Re: How do you unclip (SPD's) on a steep hill????
Yipee, managed to unclip today on steep hill. Really studied how I unclipped on the flat and realised I was doing the exact opposite on a steep hill. Normally, I unclip left foot at the top of the stroke and kick heel inwards. On a hill I was trying to unclip at bottom of stroke and kicking heel out...

Re: How do you unclip (SPD's) on a steep hill????
Thanks for all replies. I do have Sh56 multi-release cleats on the loosest setting and have been using them for 3 years. No problems at all on the flat or slight hill but whenever I get really tired and hit a steep hill I somehow have a problem releasing my foot. I pull, twist and turn to no avail, ...

How do you unclip (SPD's) on a steep hill????
Hi, does anyone know how to unclip ( from SPD's) on a steep hill. So far this hasn't been a problem as I have always managed to get to the top. Sometimes though, for a variety of reasons eg. road conditions, traffic etc I sometimes would like to unclip but always find it so difficult especially on a...

Had similar a long time ago, I found that adjusting the rake of my seat finally got rid of it.
What does 'rake of my seat' mean?

Re: Deep Muscle in Buttock Very Sore
Thanks everyone for replies. Yes, i know I should go to the Dr but unless I have something really serious I feel my Doc is condescending, so I don't go. Wildduck: Agree it is Periformis Syndrome - one of the remedies is to sit on a tennis ball (don't laugh) and roll the muscle over it. I have been d...

Deep Muscle in Buttock Very Sore
Hi, I have been cycling for many years with the usual aches and pains. In the last 3 weeks I have increased my cycling, going over familiar routes which always include a few hills, maybe 4 times a week instead of 2/3 times. I feel I haven't overdone my training. However this morning I woke with a se...

Re: Drop or Flat bars for Long Tour
Hi, Thanks to everyone for all replies. You have confirmed what I think I already knew. If ' it ain't broke why fix it'. I went out for a hilly 40 mile cycle on my flatbar and it just felt so good. No aches or pains, full stability and good confidence. I constantly change position from top, bar ends...

Drop or Flat bars for Long Tour
I have a tour of over 3000 miles coming up and was thinking of changing my flat bar Specialised Bike to drop bars. I have been told, better for touring as more hand positions. Therefore I tested a drop bar bike, yesterday and today, cycling about 30 miles up and down hills. I found the drop bars mad...

Re: Pacific Coast USA
Hi Dave, I am thinking of cycling America from San Diego to St Augustine in September next year. Planning is at the early stage. Just wondered what airline you are using - I am looking for the cheapest return flights obviously. Flying Glasgow to San Diego then Orlando to Glasgow. Any advise would be...

Re: Riding from Ft. William toward Aberdeen
Hi, I did Fort William to Aberdeen last year. FW up to Spean Bridge alongside the canal. Road to Newtonmore, then down cycle path on A9 to Pitlochry, back road via Kirkmichael(I think) to Glen Shee, North to Braemar then followed road into Aberdeen. Great route. For exact road numbers contact me if ...

Re: Cassette Hub - faulty after 9 months??
Thanks everyone for your very informative replies. Yes, I do live on one of the Scottish Islands so it is not easiest or cheapest to get the bike to Evans in Glasgow. Normally, I cycle??? Anyway the bike goes into the local bike shop, which is very good, on Thursday. I should be back cycling on Frid...

Cassette Hub - faulty after 9 months??
Out on bike today and it just started spinning. No purchase. Strange, unnerving experience, pedalling furiously and going nowhere. Took bike to local bike shop and chap said cassette hub was faulty. Bike is only 9 months old - Specialised Vita Sport from Evans. Contacted Evans who said they would ne...

Re: Cycle America Tours. Have you done it?
Noshbegosh thanks for your knowledgeable imput. Have been researching ACA and the Southern Tier route with a vengeance. ACA do two tours in a year - one from late March to Mid May and the other from late Sept. to Mid November. As the trip travels west to east I am tempted to go in Sept/Nov as I thin...

Re: Cycle America Tours. Have you done it?
Thanks all for your reponses. I have looked at ACA and they seem very professional. At the moment I am considering the Southern Tier -San Diego to St.Augustine. Looks a fascinating route and at 3160 miles doable. This tour is supported by van so all gear is carried but you still have to pitch your t...
