Re: Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040

Nah I've tried cycling around here and there are stretches of road that are okay, but there's always a busy A or B road. There may well be okay-ish routes to the Ribble valley, but then you've got to go through a city to get over the river! Not my idea of fun midway through a bike ride. I just can't...

Re: Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040

Manchester is a horrible city for cyclists. Greater Manchester as a whole is horrible for cyclists - so hard to find roads that actually go anywhere that aren't rat runs. I've lived in a number of cities in the Northern half of England and Southern Scotland and always found ok routes through the cit...

Re: It's not rocket science

I'm looking forward to finding out the truth about MRI scanners. But I'm worried because it relies on (quantum) spin, so it could be really, really bad news.

Re: It's not rocket science

Pick a frame of reference and describe the motion using that alone. You're jumping between frames of reference and confusing yourself leading to the utter nonsense your babbling on about.

With each post it becomes more apparent that you have no grasp of VERY basic physics.

Re: It's not rocket science

Basic astronomy "makes crap up". Even basic physics does with the density thing.... Have you studied either subject? I mean actual study, not just Google? FWIW I studied physics and astrophysics at university. You've written nothing that demonstrates you have even a basic grasp of physics...

Re: It's not rocket science

What makes you think you would see the same stars from the equator (at the same time of night) 6 months apart?

Seems to me that you're too stupid to understand basic physics/astronomy so you just make crap up.

Re: Elephant Highway Botswana anyone?

I cycled this road several years ago. I was doing 100 miles/day through Botswana from Namibia to Zambia via Francistown and I think the only night I didn't wild camp was when I stayed in Maun. It's very easy to find a quiet spot, but just be careful what food you keep in your tent given the likeliho...

Re: the girlfriend wants a bike trainer!

Try reading Cyclecraft. You will be bullied if you let yourself be bullied but the sort of assertive cycling explained in Cyclecraft does a lot to reduce it to an acceptable level IME. YMMV. I'm certainly assertive on the road, but there is a minority of motorists who will squeeze past you, cut you...

Re: the girlfriend wants a bike trainer!

alas, I cannot get her out on the road; she isnt happy without a metal cage around her. too many dumb drivers, she says; and it's not exactly like I can do anything except agree with her on that point. we all know how true that is! 8 million Boris bike journeys round London without a single serious...

Re: the girlfriend wants a bike trainer!

The most important thing to consider IMO is how enjoyable the turbo is to ride - the feel of it compared to the road. From my experience the Fluid 2 is superb in this respect. I've also used another fluid trainer (Elite Supercrono) and a magnetic resistance Tacx Swing and these were simply horrible ...

Re: Boycott Scotland - Do Not Holiday There

Do I have to disown my parents as well or can I visit them in the far South of Scotland. I'm pretty sure they play no part in catching the gannet chicks.

What an idiotic thing for the OP to suggest....

Re: Funny/stupid idea - lejogle in 10 days

I stand by what I say, If I know I need to be at a certain point at a certain time I want to know the whole route there, not just the next 200 yards, and if possible I want to avoid delays and diversions by planning ahead rather than having to react on the road as that will slow me down. Such an in...

Re: Spa cycles diversify further!

About time someone started selling an alternative to the ludicrously overpriced Brooks. They were good VFM a few years ago - they now cost about twice what I paid for the last one I bought. I don't use them now anyway, but I'd never buy a Brooks at their current prices.

Re: Funny/stupid idea - lejogle in 10 days

Good luck, sounds like you've come a long way in quite a short period of time so you are clearly a determined and committed individual. Is it possible? Probably. I think you'll probably find that raising even 10% of your target will be MUCH more of a challenge though. FWIW I did an unsupported LEJOG...
