Re: Winter months in Europe

My experience of the last 5 winters spent on the Costa Blanca is that its perfect for cycling. The majority of days you can cycle in shorts. Temperature rarely falls below 7C. Usually between 14-18C sometimes around 20C but even at the lower temperatures when the sun is out then its very pleasant. H...

Re: suggestions for Feb cycle

Hi I can thoroughly recommend Benidorm on the Costa Blanca. (Despite the TV programme) Lots of cheap low cost flights from Regional Airports. Plenty of accommodation catered or self catering and still reasonably cheap despite the Euro. Weather in February can be quite nice. There are some fantastic ...

Skyride Manchester

Just back from the ride around Manchester City centre organised by Sky, British Cycling and Manchester City Council. It must have cost them thousands to organise but was a great success. A pleasant traffic free route. Well marshalled. Plenty of food and drink stations and ample toilets. Lots of demo...

Battery Lights for Audax

Hi I would like not to have to fit a dynamo to my audax bike! Can anyone recommend a front battery light with a long run time for a winter 200k audax and summer 300k and 400k rides where the main aim is to see rather than be seen? Are there any that are not a riddiculous price? What is the longest r...

Re: Best route across the Pennines?

Hi Chris I avoid Leeds like the plague when going North from Oldham so i can only help as far as Huddersfield. You have 3 choices all starting from one of the Saddleworth villages (4 miles from Oldham) 1. A635 from Greenfield into Holmfirth and on to Hudddesfield. A very pleasamt climb on a quiet ro...

Re: 7-speed Megarange cassette replacement

Hi
I certainly would look in at Halfords. They are selling SRAM 3-0 7 Speed 12-32T cassettes for £14.99. (the cheapset I found anywhere) Bought one last week and it runs perfectly with other Shimano parts. Also you can check which stores have them in and reserve on line so no wasted journeys!

Re: Harwich to Rotterdam ferry

Hi If you mean the Harwich -Hook of Holland ferry then I did that trip two years ago on the night crossing. As I remember it was left up to you whether or not to take the panniers of, but in any event you will probably want to take a few items into the cabin with you. I think the breakfast was also ...

Re: Slicks on mtb touring

Hi I've just put a pair of Schwalbe City Jets on my rigid fork MTB which I'm using for commuting. I bought the 1.50in (although they're also available in 1.95in which may be better for touring). I can thoroughly recommend them, the difference they make in rolling speed from a standard pair of MTB ty...

Re: 105 Shifters: compatibility with MTB mechs

Have I got this right? I was proposing to use a Stronglight Impact 46-34-24 T chainring with an XT front mech on my new tourer. Will this work or will I need a front road mech triple instead? I was also proposing to use Ergopower levers instead of Shimano STI's, ( to which I'm used ), or bar end lev...
