Re: winter tour

I'm off to Cuba for 3 weeks Nov/Dec (before the Americans trash it!) You can now fly direct from Manchester £500. Good weather, safe quiet roads, and excellent accommodation in casa particulares (local B&B's)

No experience of Classic Cycle Tours but have cycled a lot on the Costa Blanca and always arranged my own trips. There are a few English companies that organise trips but they are mainly "training camps" Altea and Calpe are good bases but IMO Benidorm is better. The filghts are the same, b...

Re: Cold

I suffer from cold hands & feet. It's not an extreme problem, probably just on the edge of what's normal. It does result in a lot of money spent on gloves & winter cycling shoes though. I'll probably be an early adopter of this gadget. I would be very interested in the hand warmers (and I'v...

Re: Trials of an organizer

I'm told the Dean 300 going out from Oxford to Wales had one starter this am. My ride out to Chirk tomorrow had 80 entries. Lots of DNS this afternoon, but I'm sure that despite the conditions (12 inches of snow at Chirk and temperatures, including the chill factor down to -7) that some will start! I...

Re: He's anyone biked the Robin Hood Way near Sherwood Fores

I have ridden from the campsite in Clumber Park to Creswell Crags and return via Cuckney and Norton taking in as much off road as possible including sections of the Robin Hoods way. Its a very pleasant loop. Lots to see but I wouldn't do it on my tourer. It's definately an MTB ride but very easy. I'...

Re: UPDATE - Official CTC LEJoG Tours in July and Sept

Not cynical Mick but unrealistic. You also need to consider the cost of the van over the useful life of it, insurance, probable double the mileage as the van needs to get to and from its base. Wages for the support crew and time spent planning and booking. I also think £30 per person per night is a...

Re: Vintage cycling jerseys

Just back from a trip to Florence and there was a great flea market on Sunday. After much searching I found a guy selling about a dozen or so vintage wool cycling jerseys. They were awesome! And I negotiated a good price. Unfortunately they were all too small for me. Damn! http://i139.photobucket.c...

Re: Waterproof gloves

I've tried all sorts of gloves including many of the above mentioned. Nothing is really waterproof. I'm now resigned to carrying two pairs of gloves. Wearing one pair until they are really sodden and my hands can't take anymore. Then putting on a spare dry pair and hope they keep me warm until the e...

Pop into Bolton Alternative Transport on 65 Knowsley Street Bolton. They will probably be able to put you in touch with someone to ride out with.

Re: Hardknott, Wrynose and Winnats

Mick, Winatts is a must do climb but, (in my opinion), not the best in the Peak district. You can make a short loop by starting from Castleton up the Pass then drop over Mam Nick and into the Edale Valley and return to Castleton via Hope. Good cafes at Edale Station and The Woodbine Cafe in Hope. Pe...
