Re: Ortlieb dry bags

Will the tent really smell if put away wet, even if it's being taken out and used every night? yes, if you're cycling somewhere that's hot during the day and your tent is in a sealed Ortlieb bag. resolved by either laying out the tent whenever you stop to dry it out, or leaving the bag open at the ...

Re: Ortlieb dry bags

no, but, if your tent is wet with condensation (common in our climate) then it will make everything wet inside the bag (they are perfectly waterproof on the inside too), and then it will end up smelling of damp. over the past year or so though, I've been storing the tent under the bars, or between t...

Re: mail order Rohloff

ahh, ok. no I didn't know. it's hard trying to piece together information from pictures alone, it'll be good to actually get my hands on it. this is a picture of the meaty end of the bike. the disc caliper sits inside the rear triangle. I am assuming the slot just in front of, and below, the rear dr...

Re: mail order Rohloff

hi, it's a disc brake hub, which means external gear mech. it's good to hear that it's easy to fit. from all the comments it sounds like I might be making the right purchase. I am building an all-weather and all-terrain bike. I want to go from point A, normally over several thousand miles, to point ...

Re: Surly Troll or Ogre or something else?

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but Cass Gilbert is/has tried out the Troll and Ogre (and Thorn Sterling): http://whileoutriding.com/2011/02/23/a- ... osta-rica/, albeit in much more testing conditions than you'd encounter here.

Re: good accommodation sites

hi, I work for an online accommodation company (competitors of AirBnB). you'll be hard pushed to get an apartment in london that's affordable. but I can maybe help you out with finding a cheap hotel that will take a bike. the cheapest places, I have used with a bike, in london (above hostals) are in...

Re: Surly Troll or Ogre or something else?

I am switching from a LHT (700c) to a Troll. The LHT is a fantastically comfortable bike, day after day of 7 to 10 hours in the saddle and I'm quite happy to jump back on it and cycle to the shops. Maybe the lower BB height, maybe just the overall dimensions. is the LHT heavy ? no idea, not somethin...

Re: mail order Rohloff

Hi Dougie! ...... it is a lot of money simply to make pedaling uphills easier. Are you saying that a Rohloff will make it easier by dint of it being a Rohloff, or just because you'll have lower gears? just because of them being gears, actually (in my head) comparing to not having gears at all. pret...

Re: mail order Rohloff

hi, I'm quite happy with agricultural feeling equipment, I'm expecting something bordering on a very early Land Rover. For me, the only real way to have an opinion is to try it out for an extended period; and no better place now I'm next to the Pyrenees. Otherwise I'll always wonder what the fuss is...

mail order Rohloff

hi, Due to living in Barcelona I have to order my new Surly in the UK. I am contemplating a Rohloff hub also. The idea is that Brixton Cycles will order the bits, and then courier them to my place in Edinburgh. I'll fly in, pick up the box and fly it back to Barcelona. So my first ride will be far a...

Re: Bar bags

umm. Seems a lot of money for a small bag! Just thinking that if you want to get stuff out easily as your riding along ,then undoing the lid a bit and seeing inside would be preferable to undoing the whole lid and flipping it back. maybe. but it does work. you can just undo a corner, and snake your...
