This was one of the things I wondered about - is it worth putting some sort of 'padded' layer underneath to give a bit of a cushion? Steve

I regretted not doing just that!

Re: Brooks leather handlebar tape

Has anyone tried this stuff? Steve I became a Brooks junkie during 2007 with a Honey B17Ti and soon bought the matching handlebar tape. It looks superb when first fitted and kept looking pretty good but it does 'age' quicker than a saddle bought at the same time. I rode PBP using Brooks bar tape so...

When driving, I would rather have to overtake a group of cyclists riding in formation 2 abreast than a string of single cyclists. I agree. In addition, as a cyclist I feel safer riding two abreast because when you single out drivers will overtake you at the same time as an oncoming car passes. Gene...

i spend nearly all my time on my winter hack, it's a 1960s bob jackson i converted to fixed wheel, full mudguards, etc. i love it, and it is really stupidly light. it needs attention, but will have to wait until spring, at which point i may well give it a serious spruce up, or get bob jackson to do...

Very nice Colin. It looks a bit Rivendell and I like the Brooks bar tape.

I hope you have many years of cycling enjoyment out of it!

Edit: Oops just read the post above regarding Rivendell!

Accidents involving cars = 2. I've had a car door opened on me when I was a teenager - massive bruising to my left side and cuts in the usual places. There was no claim culture back in the 1970's and because I was desperate to play in a football match I said nothing to my parents! Fast forward to th...

Sorry to hear about your accident and I hope you are soon on the mend.

Frankly, I'm amazed that he's offered to pay and I expect that if goes down the insurance route then that's just not going to happen.

Our group did a moderately fast LEJOG in September 2003 and we crossed the Severn Bridge and went from Chepstow to Hereford and then up the A49. After one climb just north of Hereford I seem to remember being on the outer ring for the next few days - except for Shap! BTW once out of Glasgow we chose...

I think the prevailing winds thing is valid but only on a percentage chance basis. My mates and I did a hugely enjoyable LEJOG in 2003 and we had a tailwind for 95% of the time (on the road for 9 days). Mind you, we were blessed as we had just two hours rain, no mechanicals and no punctures (seven r...

Ultegra 57mm dp's. I think they are called R600's but whatever they are called they are bloody good brakes! I bought mine in 2006 and used them on another bike before putting them on my otherwise Campag Centaur equipped Audax Mk.3 last Autumn (2007).
