Well, that and the fact that it's perfectly reasonable for the BBC to make editorial decisions about what to make available.

They're not obliged to make their entire back catalogue available any more than Ford are obliged to sell Anglias.

CC claims frequently that he owns the BBC and has demanded overall say in its programming.

You will note there is no complaint about the same action by the independently /BBC owned Britbox, or Netflix, just the BBC

We paid for it and it should be available.

The BBC is whitewashing its past by this kind of behaviour, and that is very Orwellian.

It IS available (on Netflix)

That's presumably because it has been sold to them by the BBC.

Also ironically misunderstands the reason why some other programmes are not available or have limited availability

Great programmes.

Or are you unable to enjoy the good works done by people who also did bad things?

Some programmes because of changes in Society, are no longer acceptable as general entertainment. Despite claims otherwise, the BBC is merely taking a responsible attitude to this. For instance is this now suitable for prime time TV in the UK, or as at present available through a number of other sources and outlets for those who wish to watch it?

She makes racist comments, she apologises and so you think it is OK for Kier Starmer to give her a responsible job for community cohesion?

That sounds about as sensible as giving a thief a job as a bank cashier just because he's said sorry.

Only a naive and gullible bank manager would do that.

Yet you seem to accept someone, who makes homophobic, misogynist and racist remarks and doesn't apologise as Prime Minister?

Slightly off the main topic.....

Is it any worse than allowing someone guilty of illegally signing off property deals to benefit a Tory Sponsor and allowing them to remain as Housing Secretary?

So you think it is OK for Boris Johnson to give him a responsible job for housing, the area he has shown to be corrupt in?

But then again you have a history of refusing to recognise criminality, corruption and dishonesty if the perpetrator is a Tory

“Antisemitism is racism, full stop. As an MP, I will do everything in my power to build relations between Muslims, Jews, and people of different faiths and none. By all means use these silly memorials as an exemplar of the wrong phases the people have gone through.Learn yes, but shouting abuse achieves nothing. But above all else don't perpetuate the wrongs.

I feel we are close to agreement, but perhaps unlike me you have not been aware of the long and difficult campaign to get this outrageously offensive statue removed, and the way it has been frustrated by people who see this memorial to a slave trader as our heritage. Anger about that statue has been around for a long time. So when it went I was relieved. And it won't be coming back. Not in a million years. The statue was in a public area where people have to see it as they go about their daily activity. I imagine it will now make its way to a museum, where it will serve a much better purpose.

IIRC of the 550,000 residents only 11,000 actually petitioned for its removal.

Apart from the middle class - I agree wholly

You are also right to raise this racism - although in tis case sexism, vandalism and bullying were rife and should be unacceptable....

Read all about it

One teacher wrote about Boris Johnson:

“I think he honestly believes that it is churlish of us not to regard him as an exception, one who should be free of the network of obligation which binds everyone else.”

“He is, in fact, pretty idle about it all ... Boris has something of a tendency to assume that success and honours will drop into his lap: not so, he must work for them.”

A prime example of an inflated sense of their own importance.

Re: George Floyd death: Protesters tear down slave trader statue

The Policing issue reminds me of a cse a few years ago.

St Ives is a small market town in Cambridgeshire.

Ther had been problems with acouple of gangs of youths in Huntingdon and Policing was stepped up... so on this evening they decided to move the "rivalries" to St Ives

Calls reporting a "mass brawl" were made to the Police and the local Beat Officer attended. On sighting over 100 youths with bottles and bars, he beat a retreat and called for backup. About an hour later with backup from Huntingdon, Cambridge and Peterborough the issue was sort4d.

The local newspaper was full of complaints as to why a single Police Officer had not confronted and arrested 100+ aggressive youths.... Most of us thought he had been sensible, and made the right decision.

Bristol is pretty much the same. assess the situation, weigh up the possibilities and act sensibly

Re: Bike touring- What to do with bike at museum

Deterrent as opposed to security, but there is a device called the "Pacsafe"

Designed for rucksacks, The largest one can be placed on the floor and the bike rolled on. The "neck" can then be cinched tight at the angle of teh carrier/frame and bottom bracket.

Ironically the Thatcher statue was so popular that it was refused installation in London, and Grantham is a last resort
