Re: First escooter death?

Hello again, In this country we have a very poor understanding of tyre suitability, with an even worse attitude to compliance! One must learn lessons from colder continental countries. Many countries make it mandatory to use winter tyres for a number of months of he year, with serious penalties for...

Re: British warships in Gulf to be renamed AA and RAC

The fact is that most join for qualifications and a career, wanting to kill people is not on anyone's list of desirable conditions of employment It should also be noted that many of the Army (especially infantry) are. from deprived areas where there is massive unemployment, few opportunitoies for ad...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Andrec. I would point out that if we leave with no deal or some other restriction of freedom of movement, moving to another EU country will become impossible. It's almost like you've reinvented Catch 22. So you've noticed that the EU is a protectionist bloc which erects immigration barriers. Oddly ...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Alas, even under the greatest fantasy of Brexit: "let's go, WTO!!" we have to obey the rules of the WTO. That means our laws are constrained by WTO rules. The only difference is that we have much less say over the rules of the WTO, and those rules are much worse for us than those of the E...

Which is ironic

A remainer who has created a fantasy universe as opposed to supporters of brexit who are still creating their fantasy universe with about as much connection to reality

Re: Daily Mail's Misleading Headline from May "Cyclists had killed more people than motorists"

Trouble with statistics..... There was a guy called Smith who ran a Speedophile site called S@afespeed Amongst his claims was this one If you choose the right figures then you can prove anything Basically he took the number of fatalities caused by vehicles, digested by the total mileage of all vehic...

Re: First escooter death?

Hello there, My view on the tragic Rhyl incident was that the senior Police spokesperson was a numpty! He stated that bald tyres didn't pose the real threat, ignoring the basic fact of road tyre technology that the movement of the tread block areas move to generate heat & grip! Don't recall exp...

Re: Charging whilst cycling touring??

A few years ago there was an issue when Apple changed charging requirements. The answer was a small plug called the iXP1 http://www.xmultiple.com/Store/ixp1-500pic7abc.jpg This "boosted" the input to allow the charging of the iPhone Don't know if it will solve your charging issue

Re: Letters: Help! The New Forest is becoming a suburban park

Walk a mile from any car park in the New Forest and you’ll hardly see anyone for the rest of the day. One of the things I learned many years ago - get lost. I always spend the first couple of days in any city with an unplanned walkabout getting lost in backstreets and local areas If you walk a few ...

Re: Letters: Help! The New Forest is becoming a suburban park

Edited.... Just to explain myself My impression was that this was more about the effects of tourism, the picnics, barbeques, inappropriate behaviour as a whole, rather than an anti-cyclist rant, and feel that it could easily become a discussion about cyclists as opposed to tourism. If I am wrong, I ...

Re: First escooter death?

I think that we need to take a step back here Safety and legality are completely different things. A vehicle can be safe and legal, safe and illegal, legal but unsafe, or illegal and unsafe Whether the scooter is illegal is irrelevant to its safety. Scooters and the likes are not legal, simply becau...

Re: First escooter death?

There were two vehicles involved in this incident. One was a lorry. A lorry killed a cyclist at the same spot last year. The roundabout layout has been described as confusing. Why are we all discussing the escooter, not the lorry's presence or the roundabout? I think because it's believed the scoot...

It's incredible what some people will believe if it fits their narrative  Incredible? I think some folk just enjoy trolling. I didn't like saying as we already have one on this thread,but....... Given that most of what they have done in the meetings so far all the Brexit "party" hav...

we are just about to get a new prime minister who has no qualms about a no deal Brexit. It's incredible what some people will believe if it fits their narrative  It seems as if "andrec" would follow them (almost?) anywhere. But we are still waiting for a single example of bad UK law...
