I wait to see them topple Nelsons Column

In fact remove all the statues of Britains glorious past in London, incl Buck Palace and the queen and her kids and titles as she represents past oppression.

as long as Thatcher goes also? She commiited crimes against her own people

Mrs Thatcher had the people's permission for everything she did.

Who is going to pop up and tell me she didn't have a mandate?

Let me guess.

I toured with two full-size Ortlieb panniers and a medium "Dry Bag" no problems. They were difficult to fit the original rack unless you used QL2

The newer track is more forgiving

hmm it not about protecting you but stopping spit going forwards and unlikely around any gaps at your face?

No but if there's gaps for airflow there's gaps to allow for escape of the virus in droplets during breathing, coughs or sneezes. Making the barrier for your breath better does make sense. Try wearing prescription glasses with a buff over your nose in the cold when stopped at lights and you'll see the water droplets that escape your buff at the nose area.

Try wearing glasses!

They either fit inside the mask and steam up or outside the mask and fall off.. Glasses retainers are brilliant

I am fairly sure there are statues of at least one slaver (Columbus) and two pro-slavery politicians (Nelson and Huskisson) in Liverpool. What have you done about them?

Nelson and slavery are difficult, as the Royal Navy was actually fairly enlightened, with regard to those serving. Multiple races were represented including many black sailors. At the Trafalgar square, there is a West Indian sailor on the memorial. Whether they were pressed, joined in return for freedom, is unknown as names were recorded. not ethnicity.

The other factor is that the Army appointed its first Black Officer in May 1917 despite regulations forbidding “any negro or person of colour” from serving as an officer.

The Royal Navy was way ahead when in the 1790's a West Indian (?mixed race) Officer John Perkins made it through the system to Admiral

They are unique, and in two forms. My Gekko has an early one, and my wife's later one is far better

The early one has the weld at the base of the upright:

The later one has the weld half way up making the rack easier to use:

Re: George Floyd death: Protesters tear down slave trader statue

We also need to question current political attitudes. Boris Johnson and the Tories received £2.6 million from the owner a bank set up on the back of the slave trade and Johnson is on record as congratulating that involvement

Far easier to let this kind of thing out of the bottle, than to attempt to push it back in.

We all draw a line somewhere, even you. I imagine you would not want a statue of Jimmy Savile gracing a public square in Leeds, or a statue of Hitler in Berlin. Wherever you draw your line, a prominent slave trader should be on the wrong side of it. Other historical figures are up for debate, but not a slave trader.

The problem there is the selection of "slave trader" as the line.

It is just a single example

One assumes that the on and off condemnation of Cecil Rhodes will continue.

I have already raised the question about DeMontfort in Leicester a questionable historical legacy

Equally the same question is what to do about the latest Bete Noir - Cecil Rhodes

There are calls for his statue to be removed, and if that is the case, one assumes that the University will also be closing the Rhodes Scholarships and the Rhodes. Trust

In 2000 the World HPV cChampoionshos were held in Brighton / Goodwood

Sitting on my Hurricane when a well-known TV presenter came across, shook my hand and said "Hello Richard"

Apparently someone had told them that Richard was the large bloke with a bushy beard over by the tents... which fitted my description.

Also met Richard in Bikefix when I bought the Street Machine, and an hour later was tooted and waved to as he and some others drove past in a van on way to an HPV event

Re: George Floyd death: Protesters tear down slave trader statue

in a few years time will we see people tearing down statues of Boris Johnson?

The thing for me is that the act is criminal no matter what the provocation or excuse.

It is up to the law, and the legal system, to decide how the offence is mitigated

Re: Face Coverings now Compulsory

I am on leave until next Monday, but as from then.

Leave home and drive to work

Use PArk and Ride, wear self- sourced non-surgical type mask on the bus to work

Get to work and enter premises, change non-surgical mask, for surgical mask

Wear surgical masks all-day

Leave wearing a surgical mask

Get to bus and swap surgical for non-surgical

Wear self-sourced non-surgical mask on bus

Get into car and drive home

There are a number of Government Ministers who have made statements that justify the lapses.

The problem with ill-defined restrictions, and then excusing your own from breaking them. People factor these in when deciding.

Re: George Floyd death: Protesters tear down slave trader statue

History is often open to review and the standards of one time are not acceptable in another. We will have all seen such changes in our lifetime.

There also need to be a balance... Leicester is an example, where the name De_Montfort is everywhere, He is the "father of modern Parliament after leading the Baron's revolt and instituted participation of normal people in Government.

However, he was an anti-Semite who was responsible for a number of massacres to gain access to the debts and records of those debts.

The family's fortunes came from the genocide and religious intolerance that was the Cathar Crusades. The elder brother was a participant in the notorious sacking of Beziers in France. The whole city was massacred. When questioned how the soldiers would know Christians from Cathars, the order was given:

Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius. - KIll them all for God will know his own

This was the death warrant for thousands of innocents

Should Leicester really be celebrating these actions?
