Presumably what you describe is why so many here still dislike the French , and it appears an acceptable national hatred that even "right on" comedians invoke. The last war between Britain and France finished in 1815.
If you think that shows that we have a hatred of the French, you've lost any sense of perspective.

We laugh at jokes about the French, BUT:
We wouldn't wish them to rot when/if invaded by a neighbour.

(I'm pretty sure the relationship is near perfectly symmetrical - although of course their comedians aren't as good as ours  )
If you don't think many in Britain hate the French yoou haven't been listening or reading much.
You're funnier than any '"right on" comedians' !

You make the assumption that all women seeking abortions are "vulnerable", they're not.

Motorists affected by JSO protests claim to be unable to use any other form of transport, within reason,to go about their daily lives.
I know some may not but not all, just like some but not all women seeking abortions are "vulnerable".
I'd say that people sitting down on a main road in front of hundreds of cars are quite vulnerable.

Your view may differ.

Bit of an 80year grudge is that Pete :?
Fortunately the Poles are a peaceful and forgiving nation:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-66150790
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Polish counterpart have jointly commemorated the Poles murdered by Ukrainian nationalists in the 1943 Volhynia (Volyn) massacre.
In a Catholic cathedral in western Ukraine, Mr Zelensky and President Andrzej Duda placed candles to honour the tens of thousands who were killed.

Poland is one of Ukraine's closest allies against the Russian occupation.

But the Volhynia slaughter remains a dark cloud in their relations.
The Ukrainian nationalists, led by Stepan Bandera, operated in German-occupied Poland during World War Two and many collaborated with the Nazis. They attacked about 150 villages, murdering the minority Polish population.

One other notable point that arises here is that chain wear follows a cube root law, ie chains wear fastest when they're new, and wear rate slows as they get older and more worn. This is entirely contrary to the notion that most cyclists are preoccupied with.
Nice to get some good news!
... but doesn't a longer (worn/"stretched") chain still wear cogs faster than a new one?

At the risk of making things vv simplistic, I'm confident that if Putin could have taken Ukraine with his current budget, and without hiring woeful mercenaries from Korea, he would have done so by now.
(I'm no expert on military tech or tactics - I'm just looking at the net outcomes on the ground. Putin expected to be in Kiev in 3 days ... )

I reckon he jumped for joy when Trump offered him peace talks. Even before he heard the ludicrously generous terms!

Thanks for that Mel!

So may I ask, when you're at home, what plants do you two eat? (I think you only talk about olives, avacados and some onions - all of which incidentally tend to score highly with nutrition experts!)

Apparently Caledonian Sleeper won't change your booking once it's made, so unless you're told during booking that you will need to put your bike in a bag you shouldn't have to disassemble it. I don't think that's at all obvious from the message they make you agree to before you can even do a search with a bike but I've been directed to bits of the website that explicitly distinguish between a 'with bike' and 'with bike in a bag' booking, so hopefully that information is correct!
Good news. And excellent research, thankyou!

I think it must be because some people really like them. They suit upright bikes and flat landscapes rather well; it should come as no great surprise that they are popular in the Netherlands too. There is a school of thought whereby any cable-operated brake is considered too
fragile for bicycle use, and in some cases that is probably right.
Back in the day, all of us really rad dudes preferred them:

SimonCelsa wrote: 4 Jan 2025, 9:28pm I see the entry is now open. https://londonedinburghlondon.com/

I am seriously contemplating having a shot at this. It will be very much 'full value'. 1539km / 956miles to be completed in 128 hrs. 289 km/day ~ 179 miles/day for 5 days 8 hrs. A big ask.

Living in the Highlands, my strategy will be to progress to Edinburgh; if things look good then return to London, but if things look grim then just continue home to Inverness!

Anyone else thinking of giving it a shot?
Did you get in Simon?

( I had guaranteed entry in triplicate  I also rode in 2009 when there was little pressure on places. Nothing like 1997 I'm sure - did they even have pneumatic tyres back then?!?)

We don't have ANY devices in the kitchen with mikes, and none of them are net/web enabled! Long may that remain the case. :)
