Got a bit of an odd issue which may have been there a while, or something new.
Mid block shifting is jumping two sprockets. Other sections of the block are fine.
Four wheel sets. 2x brand new Sunrace 11-46 , one Shimano 11-42 and one XD 10-42. Haven't tried the XD but the problem is there on the other three.
If it was the mech I'd expect it to be a general problem across the full range, likewise the chain ( not new but showing good on the wear gauge).
Could it be the shifter? Worn parts that cover the mid range??
Never had this issue in 30 yrs of building bikes ....

Computers with BIG distance info
I'm looking for a wireless bike computer that has distance in big, readable numbers.
The ones I've seen have the speed on big numerals and everything else in much smaller numerals.
I can read the speed I'm traveling at but this information is of zero interest to me. And I should think is of no interest to anyone above the age of 15 !
What I need is to be able to read useful navigational information without having to stop and put on my reading glasses. Time lapse and distance are really useful for off road nav. ; the rest I can live without.
I've taken off my Cateye wireless because it is essentially useless to me......there must be better offerings out there??

Re: Off-road Gravel Bike Limitations
I'm in the process of dropping from ten bikes to one carbon fat bike and three wheel sets, though a fourth wheel set might come in handy. Tyres from 4.8 down to CX 38 mm covers everything I do. Some tubeless , some tubed for ease of changing tyres.
I never use dropped bars now due to a neck injury, so one bike covers it all.
If you have clearance you can go thinner. If you don't have clearance you can't go fatter.......

Re: Uk custom framebuilder thinking out of the box
Thanks guys, I'll look into these suggestions.
The Surly Big Fat Dummy is too big.
The Salsa Blackborow is perfect size wise but I want steel, and a custom built in rack.
It is for hauling off road, work related, hence the desire for 5" fat tires. Very boggy ground.
It will get a Bafang e conversion, another reason the Salsa won't do, as the BB area is incompatible.
cheers
all.

Uk custom framebuilder thinking out of the box
Hi folks
I'm looking for a recommendation for a frame builder who is a little less traditional than the main players.
The build will be a fat bike cargo, 190 rear bolt through, 100mm BB etc.
Who is likely to be responsive to this?

e FAT bike ; what is actually available?
Discounting the theoretical 'should be available, maybe' category, does anyone know of any e fat bikes that actually exist in the UK available to buy? No hub drives though.
I've tried google etc, and x3 LBC who have also searched their suppliers. No joy.

Theres quite a few high end 27.5 Plus bikes out there and some good deals available, reasonable backup available too - eg Trek and Spesh
Yes, def full fat. I'll run a second wheel set 29+ for when full fat is over kill.

Re: e Fat: what's available top end?
Marcus, we have a mis understanding: I was listing the Cube as one of the few high end fat e's I've found......
Now added the Mondraker Panzer efat, but that is 1,100£ more than the Cube. But it does have 197 rear axle rather than the 177 of the Cube, so will take fatter tyres than the 4" max on the Cube. And is c2kg lighter

Re: e Fat: what's available top end?
Am I right in thinking that the Cube will take a rear rack? That might be the clincher, that and a grand cheaper!

This is true of most bikes but I have always built my bikes from frame up, and always with quality kit. I know all about the law of diminishing returns and a hammered bank a/c going this route
At least I'm looking at off the peg this time.

e Fat: what's available top end?
Hi folks,
What is available on the market for quality e Fat?
so far I've only found the Cube Nutrail 500 and the Moustache Samedi 26 Wild : surely there must be more?

Re: 29 incher - all hype?
I've had a few: hated the first [a Genesis first generation]. Then I built a single speed based on a Gary Fisher Rig and it rode superbly! It quickly became the bike of choice [out of a selection of 10!]. Now I have a Salsa Fargo custom build for touring, but often pull it off the rack for local rides.
I still have 26ers and use them, but 29er are hard to beat when used for single speed or touring.
