Re: Upgrade Tiagra ST-4600 levers to ST-4703
that's a handy site for getting the brake pads, thanks for that. I think I'll just try a small front bag with the existing levers. Cutting noodles isn't what I want to do and there seems to be space between the bars and the cables for a not too deep or wide bag.

Re: Upgrade Tiagra ST-4600 levers to ST-4703
I have Tiagra ST-4600 with Hayes CX Expert brakes, 10 speed cassette. Perhaps I should just replace the entire drivetrain and brakes. Pads areg getting difficult to find for the CX brakes these days.

having said that, I have a 10 speed cassette and 105 is 11 speed so they won't work I presume.

Re: Upgrade Tiagra ST-4600 levers to ST-4703
thanks for that. 10 speed 105 looks an option as the Croix de Fer is double chainring.

Upgrade Tiagra ST-4600 levers to ST-4703
I'd like to use a bar bag on my old Croix de Fer which has Tiagra ST-4600 levers with the protruding cables. Would it be possible to just swap them for Tiagra ST-4703 levers? I thought about replacing everything with GRX but just swapping the levers to ST-4703 would be a lot cheaper. The ST-4703 have a different cable pull, would that mean new transmission would be needed?
thanks,
Alistair

Re: Iceland F35 camping and bike on bus
thanks very much for the info. I think I'm starting to favour the F26 now. It's 75 miles to the start of the F35 on tourist clogged roads but I can get the bus to Selfoss and then it's 20 miles to the F26 up to Akureyri and bus back from there.
The issue is I can only go last week in September so it's probably unlikely the F26 will still be open by then.

Iceland F35 camping and bike on bus
I'd like to ride the F35 north to south and see there is a bus from Reykjavik to Blonduos. Is it normal in Iceland for bikes to be taken on the bus? Do you have to book in advance? Is there a size limit to the bikes? It'll be my Longitude with Jones H-Bars which are quite large!
Also, is it possible to camp on the F35? I realise it's busier than alternatives but I'd like something manageable for the trip. Food is fine with dried food but I don't know anything about water in Iceland. Glacier water is obviously not an option.
I'm not sure what to do about the bike box. I've heard there is a hotel near Keflavik that allows bike box storage.
thanks for any info,
Alistair

Re: Shimano Tiagra 4700 levers with 4600 everything else
ah yes, the GRX levers seem to be hydraulic. That'll explain why they're much more expensive than the Tiagra 4700 levers. Tiagra it is then.
The GRX 400 RD can go to 36t so might as well go with that as it hopefully it should work with the XT-M771-10

Re: Shimano Tiagra 4700 levers with 4600 everything else
thanks for the levers tip. The brakes are Hayes CX Expert. No complaints whatsoever, just getting difficult to find replacement pads for them as they're no longer made. Prefer to keep the disc brakes cable operated. If I can push to the cost of the GRX levers I might just do that if they will work with the cable operated CX Experts.
Waiting to hear back on whether the 4700/GRX rear derailleur will work with the Shimano Deore XT M771 10 Speed Cassette 11-36 for a truly low gear touring experience! Currently have 11-34 with the 4600 levers.

Re: Shimano Tiagra 4700 levers with 4600 everything else
The goal is bar space for a bag, hence the 4700 levers and lower gearing, hence the GRX 600 chainset. The compatibility chart says:
ST4700 = FD-RX400 = FD-RX600-10 = BB-RS500 = CN-HG95
and I read somewhere the FD-RX600-10 (for the much lower gears than Tiagra) needs the FD-RX400.
Plus adding the GRX 400 10 Speed Shadow Plus Rear Derailleur completes the upgrade. Not sure why rear derailleurs aren't on the compatibility chart.
I also looked at GRX levers but they seem to come with disc brakes which are flat mount but the Croix de Fer is post mount and the adapters (if they work) cost a fortune and just add more stuff to perhaps break.

Thanks for the BB tip.
I think only the GRX FD will work with the GRX chainwheel.

Re: Shimano Tiagra 4700 levers with 4600 everything else
I think I'll just replace the whole lot in one go.
Shimano Tiagra 4700 10 Speed levers
Shimano GRX 400 10 Speed Front Derailleur
Shimano GRX 600 2x10 Speed Chainset
Shimano Tiagra RS500 Bottom Bracket
Shimano Tiagra 4700 10 Speed Rear Derailleur (or RD-RX400 BB)
that should get me the bar space and lower gearing

Shimano Tiagra 4700 levers with 4600 everything else
I have a 2015 Croix de Fer that has Shimano Tiagra 4600 levers, mechs etc and would like to be able to use a bar bag. For that, I would need the Tiagra 4700 levers as the cables don't stick out on these. Could I just swap the existing 4600 10 speed levers for the 4700 10 speed levers? The end goal is to replace the rest of the drivetrain with GRX to get lower gearing but changing the levers to 4700s would be a good start.
thanks,
Alistair
