Re: WIMPS Coast To Coast 2019

Reality check; Pete and the driver, own transport to start, require return to start. Nick, own transport. John and Ken, own transport. SO, ... David and Chris drive north picking up John and Alistair on the way. Dave and Chris, drive back after the ride taking Pete +1, John and Alistair and Paul ba...

Re: WIMPS Coast To Coast 2019

Any chance that I can be picked up and dropped off at Junction 33 on the M6. (That's 2 junctions up from "Jon100" pickup.) Also I have not booked the Monday night yet so that's to sort out where and whatever is convenient. At the moment I make it that there are a total 9 riders. I estimate...

SIM card it is then, thanks for that. Landsurfer said Argos, does anyone know if they are available at Heathrow - or maybe Paddington? Ken. I think you misunderstood Landsurfers post. :) Argos is a shop found in most towns. https://www.argos.co.uk Perhaps someone can correct me but there seems to b...

Re: Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 overkill for first road bike?

Considering price - Advert says bought Feb'19 so possibly a 2018 bike :- https://www.paulscycles.co.uk/555/products/giant-tcr-advanced-pro-1-road-bike-2018-blackred.aspx Look at the spec's and if your happy with the price (Euros) and the ride then it's your money. :D The spec's do say "tubeless...

Re: Need to reposition front mech?

A good few years back since 8 speed days even though I still have the STX/Lx on my MTB. (back of the shed :( ) ( The RSX shifters are in a box somewhere. ) No reason that altering the cassette should require any alteration of the front derailleur. May have to adjust the "B" screw of the RD...

Re: Need to reposition front mech?

Your front mech' will have a designed chainline value. So check the measurement of your chainset chainline and the values should be similar. Is the extra 3mm of the new BB all on the drive side or 1.5mm equal both sides?. I haven't checked closely but I would imagine it is 1.5 equal both sides. A s...

Re: Old British Eagle frame with speckled rusty bits

There are rust reformers that, in theory, chemically change the rust to prevent further rusting.
I think Rustoleum was the product we used on cars but a long time ago.

Re: Accomodation booked, one last look at route?

After Kendal to Carnforth - i've followed your route CyclerUK you provided on RWGPS. What is the A65/A6070 like out of interest from Kendal to Carnforth? The A6070 is fine, especially after Burton in Kendal. That first part of the A65 is usually ok, just don’t go anywhere near the Kendal bypass. Th...

Re: Accomodation booked, one last look at route?

Looks a great tour. On day 5 using the A6 all the way south of Penrith is generally fine and you might want to avoid Lancaster Canal towpath. Lots of narrow bridges, decaying tarmac and dog walkers. You can give it a go and always drop down onto the main road if needed. If I'm choosing a day ride i...
