Depending on the tools you have you could try a socket (from a socket set) and either tap it down or use a vice to squeeze it into place.

Re: Campagnolo cables v Clarks
I am under the impression that Campag' gear cable inners are fractionally thinner than other makes. ?
They are 1.1 - 1.2 mm but I don't know the thickness of other makes.

Your best starting a thread on it's own and you may get some answers.Pinhead wrote: ↑16 Jul 2024, 10:59am I am going to annoy someone but I have to ask
HOW do you use these things.
I live at sy256eu
And say I would like to go to SY25 6QS to the riverside cafe which I do all the time
How could I plan a roundabout route on these things rather than straight there
Thanks

Re: Cassette advice
Possibly but the short cage mech' won't have enough wrap to take up the longer chain.
It would work but the chain would hang when on small-small with the chance of it jumping off.
A longer chain will be needed to accommodate the new big-big arrangement.

Re: Shimano Freehub Service
Freehubs can get water in. I have seen one frozen on an MTB winters ride.
(pawls frozen open.)
Obviously would start working once thawed out but a service would really be needed.

A lot more interesting today and a good finish. Maybe a race of it will be made after all?

Can you move it by hand? (disconnect the cable if you have to.)

Bit of a boring stage today. I listened to it until the last 10K.

If you have a go then try not to damage the dust cap.
I have had a go at dismantling a freehub but could not get the inner cone undone.
(was not sure which way turn the cone - hadn't seen the video then)

Re: Brakes for road bike to flat bar conversion
I just used the same levers when I swapped my drops to a cow-horn style bar.
Fitting the levers just on the bend of the bar made them perfectly fit my hand.
What does your wifes bike have ?

Re: Tour de France ITV4. Starts Saturday 29th
Getting near the end today one of the commentators said - "they have eased off at the moment".
The onscreen speed meter was showing 51 kph. (30mph)
This was on the flat with about 20k to go.

Crazy finish today.
How there aren't more crashes on sprint days I don't know.
Gives me a twitchy bum every time I watch one.

Re: Replacing 7 speed shimano deraileur
Not exactly:-SprokenBroke wrote: ↑1 Jul 2024, 2:01am I'm pretty sure that 7s and 8s are the same spacing. When you put a 7 cassette on a freehub that will take an 8 you have to use a spacer behind the 7.
7 speed = 5mm pitch, 31.9 stack.
8 speed = 4.8mm pitch, 35.4 stack.
An 8 speed cassette won't fit on a genuine 7 speed hub.
But yes a 7 speed on an 8 hub requires an extra spacer.
