Re: How did you first get into cycling

I don't know how old I was, but became aware at about 3 years of age that I was being transported around in a sidecar attached to my Parents tandem. At about 5 years I had to pedal for myself on the back of the Tandem, at about 10 I was riding a single on runs out with parents and 2 years later join...

Re: Time Trials on dual carriageways.

When I started driving, quite a while ago now, The Highway Code said on its first page. Remember ALL people have a right to use the highway, conveniently dropped in later editions

Re: Viscount bicycles!!

No knowledge of the complete bike, however I built a pair of Lambert Hubs into sprints for my Son to race on as a teenager(He is nearing 50 now). When he became motorized My Wife took the bike over and used it up until a couple of years ago. Hubs and wheels are still in excellent condition, nothing ...

Re: Flashing bike lights

The attention grabbing of flashing lights has been established for many years,The very reason that emergency vehicles are fitted with them (rotating beacons give the impression of flashing). After many years of driving emergency vehicles on country roads and motorways I have not come across any diff...

Re: How do I remove these parts from the head tube?

The two parts you wish to remove are an interference fit. you need a drift a minimum of 2" more in length than the head tube. the ideal would be a steel tube that will slide down inside the head tube. slide the drift down into the head tube until it sits on top of the lower bearing. Either tap ...

Re: Schwalbe CX Comp popped off

Had the same trouble many years ago with various wheels and tyre makes. Probably me overinflating. Fitted two rim tapes to wheels and no return of trouble since, and that was about 40 years ago.

Epsom C.C.

Does anybody know if the Epsom C.C. is still in existance. Would like to trace Robert Clark- racing in the 70s and 80s about 57 years old now. Keith Bennett

Re: Can I cycle on a bypass ??

When I started driving over 50 years ago, on the first page of the 'Highway Code' "Remember everybody has a right to use the highway" This disappeared in subsequent editions. And yes there were dual bypasses in those days

Re: ...if alloy cottered cranks were ever made?

Alloy Cottered Cranks were indeed produced in the 1940s Under the ALLEZ name , I believe part of Holdsworths They were a bit 'chunky' probably not as strong as todays materials. To deal with this extra long cotter pins were available. But as regards the 1930s I was then a passenger in a sidecar on m...

Re: Spokes

I bought a new Dawes Horizon in March last year ...in September one of the spokes on my front wheel suddenly snapped with a loud 'ping' while cycling on a flat road with no ulterior cause. I went to my dealer where I purchased it expecting them to replace the spoke as it was ...I thought ...under i...
