Cairnryan to Troon route

Could anyone advise me on the best cycling route from Cairnryan to Troon please? Ideally I should like to stay overnight about 15-20 miles north of Cairnryan. Thanks

Re: Bike stability when using front low loader panniers

Thanks for all of your feedback. Trying to save the bike was instinctive and it all happened very quickly. I get nervous when climbing hills with road edges that have crumbled and I weave away from them. This year I walked when I became neurotic about getting into the roadside ruts. I shall balance ...

Lochranza Youth Hostel

My son and I shared a private twin room at this hostel. It was excellent , two twin beds, not bunks, ensuite facilites , sheets and towels provided, spacious shower cubicle. Excellent self catering facilities and secure bike shed. I can recommend this hostel for the tired and ageing (old!) cyclist C...

Bike stability when using front low loader panniers

Perhaps the cause was old age and fading strength but this year on a tour of the inner Hebrides I found my Raleigh Randonneur's steering a bit twitchy. When climbing , and weaving , I almost come off . I did have a fall when wheeling my bike across a road. The bicycle fell away from me and I fell on...

Re: Greatest ever uk frame builder?

Over a long cycling life I have had a number of different cycles; the best touring ride has been on a 1987 Raleigh Randonneur
built in their Specials division. They named each bike's builder, but I cannot put my hand on the documentation at the moment.

Dawes Galaxy Classic 531 2016

Has anyone bought one of these new bikes? It looks good and I am tempted, but realise that I am partly activated by nostalgia !

Re: Surprise: nicer without indexing

I have a 1984 Raleigh Classic 15 speed with friction changing and I enjoy this gear changing arrangement but I also enjoy index linked changing on my Raleigh Randonneur 18 speed,1987, and rarely have any problems.

ID rear carrier lamp bracket

This bracket is sold by Spa. Has anyone experience of fitting it to a rear Blackburn pannier carrier which has no drilled holes in it?
Thanks

Re: Replacement for Weinmann 610 Centre pull brakes

Following advice given to me on the Forum I have replaced the cables and this has given effective braking and the stiffness is much diminished. Many thanks.

Replacement for Weinmann 610 Centre pull brakes

I find the Weinmann brakes, wirh Weinmann levers on drop bars on my 1984 Raleigh Classic stiff to operate and not 100% efficient. I am thinking of replacing the brakes from the Dia-Compe range. How do I measure the 'drop' ? Will the Weinmann Brake levers work with Dia-Compe brakes. I have hangers fr...

Re: First cuckoo of the year

Heard a cuckoo near Ballymoney today and saw martins building their mud nest under the eaves of a house but no swallows yet.
