Re: Pedal reflectors for Sylvan touring pedals

Thanks Brucey. Unfortunately I have returned them. But I have grasped the sense of what you stay. They did seem to lock tight when I leaned them to the left or right. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have asked the supplier to send me ones that work so I hope to get a solution. I like pedal re...

Re: Pedal reflectors for Sylvan touring pedals

Still looking for a good supplier. So far I have received, from two suppliers, defective reflectors. In both cases the bolts would not move to slide so they were useless without this adjustability. The reflectors looked to be the same make from the two suppliers. Ordered by 'phone I was assured that...

Re: Cairnryan to Ardrossan

Thanks for the Ballycastle departures. Very attractive but as they are subject to weather planning is difficult. In my youth I could make it up as I went along but now I am an old man I do not handle uncertainties very well.
Best wishes

Re: Cairnryan to Ardrossan

Thanks. The Ballantrae route will be my outward journey and the Kirkmichael , Glentrool, Newton Stewart , New Luce route will be my return route. I think the road out of Dalrymple, Gallows Hill ?,and the Straiton to Glentrool road via the Davy Bell memorial at Rowantrees are magnificent and as I thi...

Cairnryan to Ardrossan

For a number of years my son and I have done a tour of the Inner Hebrides and Kintyre. We crossed from Larne to Troon and then caught the ferry from Ardrosan to Broddick. The Larne to Troon ferry has been discontinued. However we want have our usual tour. WE shall cross from Larne to Cairnryan. Coul...

Re: How the spirit of cycling has changed

For myself as a cycle tourist the biggest change has been the loss of the old YHA network of hostels with the requirement to arrive on foot or by bike. There was great comraderie in hostels as we shared the cooking facilities and undertook a little job before we left.

Wheel bearings extractor tool

I am going to try to change the sealed bearings on my Zenith wheel hubs. What extractor tool do I need ? Will the Park tool do the job? Excuse me if this is a very naive question.
Thanks.

Re: Swimming versus cycling, which is more dangerous?

Open water swimming for those over say 65 has special dangers especially for cyclists who have little body fat around the torso. It is easy to get hyperthermia if you stay in cold water for say 1 hour. I speak as a former active member of the Irish Long Distance swimming Association which does not a...

Re: Straddle Wire

Gaz is right the Suntour straddle wire does fit the eyelet on the AT50. Earlier authoritive comments shook my confidence so I took the bike and straddle wire to a respected cycle mechanic who confirmed that it does not fit. I now need my confidence restored on my Tange headset query !

Re: Straddle Wire

Thanks for your interest. I cannot find the Canti number but the are the original Shimanos on my 1987 and my 1988 Raleigh Randonneur. There is no way this Suntour wire , bought from SJCycles, will pass through the eyelets.

Straddle Wire

I bought a Suntour heavy grade straddle wire for my Shimano cantilevers. Unfortunately it is too thick to pass through the eyelets. This was a mistake due to my ignorance. Those who need to can learn from my mistake.
