Vatternrudan training

James, not normally on this site, but saw your email and I have completed Vatternrudan 3 times, and first time I did it we were struggling for information on the course, training, so here you go.
The course is reasonably flat apart from lots of rolling rises at the end, but 300km is a long slog albeit on great road surface with very good food, waterstops on the way around, but still needs decent preperation.
In terms of training I would try and target 2-3 long sportives through March, April, May to get the body ready - the sportives here are harder, more hills and the best training I found for the first VF I did, which was circa 10 hours 30 mins total time.
At weekends I built up "long" weekend rides of 2 hours, both Saturday and Sunday in Jan., one 3 hour ride per weekend Feb., plus shorter/fast ride, then 4 hours every weekend in March (plus shorter one), and you get it 4-5 hours in April - with that and the sportives and bit of spinning during the weekend you will be fine.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
John
