Re: SCHWALBE Marathon Cross

I have used them on a Mtn Bike for my commute. Heavy but bullet proof. My inner tubes rotted before I had a puncture

Re: Cycle to Work Providers

I have had a couple of Bikes from 'Bikes for the NHS' through Bike Shack in Exeter. Both came well packed and set up. Unfortunatly the Specialized Tri Cross suffered a fatigue crack to its frame, after eighteen months, they Changed the frame no quibble. The only thing I note is you don't get your first free service unless your prepared to send your bike back to the dealer. Overall I have been very pleased with the service though.

Re: New road bike

I am tempted by the Specialized Roubaix SL4, having covered thousands of miles on my Roubaix I have been very happy with it.The only things I would change would be disks, bigger tyre size and gearing choice all included in the SL4.

Strada Wheels

Just a cautionary note, I purchased the sale wheelset from the website yesterday, Herd nothing today so phoned to check. They informed me they had no stock of the £199 wheels but would gladly build me some for £299. I note the sale wheels are still on sale though?

Re: Billy Bilsland Cycles Glasgow

Only an aside, I was riding through Glasgow on tour and had a spoke repaired for free at a cycle shop. They would not accept payment so I put my money in a charity box on the counter. I believe this was the shop, I remember they had Robert Millar's Polca Dot Jersey on display at the time.

Re: Saddle Bags

I have a Carradice Nelson for B+B touring, originally supported by a Bagman which I hated as it bounced around so much. However when it fell apart I kept the quick release and fitted a Blackburn Rack to support around 10 Kg in the bag. I have done a couple of tours like this and have found it the perfect set up for me.

Re: Mercian stolen, Newcastle

I have only had my KOM for a month and can't imagine having it stolen, I had a Chas Roberts taken ten years ago and it has taken me this long to replace it and realy bond with a bike again. Sad I know

Mercian Cycles

I visited Mercian a few weeks ago thinking of having a Frame built. I found the staff friendly, knowledgable and happy to spend time with the customers.
I was assisted by Ray who was able to find a couple of off the shelf frames in my size, in particular one King of Mercia that was all I would spec if ordering a frame. A deal was done with my leaving my Tri Cross (cracked frame) and Mercian building it up over that week for pick up the next weekend.
I received a text and call on Monday re the build and a final call to say my bike was ready. I picked it up the following week . What can I say lovely quality and a perfect build. I have cycled 300 miles now and find the Bike absolutely spot on.
My only problem was that Mercian omitted the Data tag agreed in the sale, however following an email posted me a kit out.

Am chuffed with the Bike and the service

Re: physio advice

First thing with Orthopaedic injury-dont panic and make quick decisions. Your body will take its time to mend. Gentle stretch and exercise will not hurt in the long run, pluss sensible diet.
I smashed my Humerous a couple of years ago 12 month of rehab and it's nearly as good as new, however I did suffer 4 months of having my arm strapped to my chest.
Il get back to you with some rehab advice, but if you have one locally gently stretch and non wieght bearing in water (swimming pool) or A jacuzzi would be better (warmer).

Don't despair things will improve you will cycle I have no doubt

Re: Carbon frames - who's got an old one?

A simple answer
I have a three year old Specialized Roubaix, I have covered over 10,000 miles on in all weathers and also transported to Europe twice. It's on it's third chain, second bottom bracket and second set of wheels. If I clean the frame it's still looks like new and rides as well as its first ride, and is a pleasure to own.
I have a one year old Specialized Tricross in aluminium that already been replaced once due to a cracked frame weld in under 1800 miles.
I also have a steel touring bike A Mercian that was custom built and appears set to tour for years, it's heavier than the carbon but is a lovely to ride.

I gues it's Horses for courses
