Re: £1 a day tour completed
We originally planned for 100 days but for one reason or another decided to speed up. In the end it took 66 days.

Re: Pyrenees
I've been over the Pyrenees five times now, in both directions over Roncevalles (1000 m, both September), southwards via Andorra (2400 m in August), northwards from Ripoll (about 1500 m, April) and southwards along the coast via Hendaye (almost 0 metres, July). There was a little snow kicking about ...

Re: Charging Devices Whilst Touring - Options??
I used a Portapow solar panel and battery this summer. The solar panel folds into three and when not in use can lie flat against the back of your pannier taking up little space. With bungees fed through its canvas loops you can strap it over your rear rack, and while every panel won't be angled dire...

Re: £1 a day tour completed
The topic of budget travel comes up frequently on cycling forums and so I hope it's not too much self-promotion to mention that the book of our £1 a day ride in now out. It's available from Amazon on Kindle or in paperback and called "Hungry for Miles: Cycling across Europe on £1 a Day". I...

Re: £1 a day tour completed
Thank you very much. When someone tells me they're enjoying what I'm writing, that is all the incentive I need. Hopefully I'll be back home in 3 weeks. Until then I'll enjoy the Spanish sunshine, the French clouds and the English drizzle. Thanks again.
Cheers
Steven

Re: £1 a day tour completed
You're right. It didn't include the ferry. Unless you own a yacht, or know someone who does, you aren't crossing the channel for free. And yes we camped in a few farmer's fields but there were no showers or free laundry, and the few times we were gifted a meal we factored into our expenses what our ...

Re: £1 a day tour completed
Well done on finishing! Is there going to be a book coming out, or even an online diary? I don't use Facebook. What was the negativity about the trip? Some people thought it ill-conceived. Some even said it might kill my co-riders. It wasn't and it didn't. And yes, there'll be a book. I just need t...

£1 a day tour completed
On Thursday three of us reached Gibraltar on the Ride and Seek 2015 £1 a day tour. We had a fair bit of negativity about the trip but that was good because it was the negativity that spurred on one of our cyclists to come along. At least now I know that, whatever the state of my finances, I'll alway...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
Any thoughts on how things are shaping up, Steven? ... No-one has got cold feet? Since the deadline of May 15th when people had to tell me if they were definitely coming, all three who said 'yes' are still very keen - nay, excited! - to be starting in less than a week's time. We've all been sorting...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
Thank you for the kind comments about my book. As a follow-up to the original post we are now a team of four setting off from Liverpool in a little under a month's time. We also have two or three other riders who'll join us for part of the way. On another cycling forum the other day someone was desc...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
Finally! Steven your book is brilliant. The last two bike travelogues I've read had me wishing I'd never been interested in bikes, croissants, hotel receptionists hills and giving my bike a name. I've laughed out loud at a lot in your book. I'm pleased you have unashamedly chucked your dark humour ...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
Hey Steven. I'm still doing a sad clown's face [emoji17]that I can't join you this time and your merry caterpillar of bikes. I know I would have a gas and offer useful input. I'm sorry I'm not in a different '5 minute space' in life, but as you know we all end up stepping in dog poo when you take a...
