Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
Thanks for the Donner link. I'll give it a proper read in a minute but even I'm not so desperate to finish this thing that I'd resort to cannibalism. I don't have the butchery skills for one thing. Yes, it'll be tough at times. Just last night I sent an email to those interested telling them how tou...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
I am curious how this idea has stood up to another month of thought. It’s audacious, to say the least. Thanks for asking :D. So far I have eleven or so people interested in joining me on the ride, although some have personal obstacles to overcome that could rule them out. I'm not asking for a defin...

Re: GPS or maps
If you decide upon maps then take them with you. I really struggled to find paper maps in Germany a couple of years ago. The shopkeepers all told me, "But no one wants them any more." Only two years earlier I seemed to be able to find them anywhere. I love maps, me.

Re: First two weeks tour in Europe in June: where?
Romania had busy main roads or dirt tracks and not much else. I absolutely disagree with this broad and misleading statement!! Of course there are busy roads and of course there are dirt tracks but please don't assume there isn't anything else. I've done a lot of touring in my time and seen a lot o...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
Whats your take on wildlife as a food source? Rabbits pigeons etc. A catapult is a handy item. Maggotts are apparently a good food source. Add them to your stews. Mmm, hypocritical though it is as a meat eater, I reckon I'd have a problem killing a rabbit. Pigeons wouldn't be too bad, but city pige...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
Best of luck with the trip whether it ends up as a lone venture or you progress across Europe like a massed army of locusts. Cheers, Sweep! To be honest I originally imagined that I'd struggle to find anyone. The fact that so many are interested after only three weeks of fairly limited searching no...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
This sounds brilliant! I'd love to come along, it combines my two passions cycle touring and fishing but unfortunately I doubt I'd get away with 3 months off work. Join us for a week or two if you like. The map on the website - http://www.rideandseek2015.com - shows all the airports en route servic...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
I love the sound of your trip but I wonder if you would have better luck finding 'buddies' on perhaps the SAS or Royal Marines website's, if they have them that is. From my experience the CTC start the day with a Trangia cooked 'full English' followed by coffee at 11, lunch at 1, afternoon tea at 3...

Re: First two weeks tour in Europe in June: where?
Regarding eastern Europe, Montenegro is amazing, especially the Piva Gorge. I've heard great things about the coast too. I also loved Bosnia. Romania had busy main roads or dirt tracks and not much else. Slovenia is also very pretty especially in the Julian Alps. And though only Montenegro of those ...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
I'm interested in book sales and who it's best to buy it from. I'm asking because in the music industry, the artists get more profit if you buy from them direct rather than Amazon or the like. (I know this because my ex is a musician) Is it the same with books? Don't answer if that's too personal. ...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
These Kindle things. Hmmm. I've got your paperback book coming my way. I'm struggling to imagine a Kindle in my panniers instead of books. Never say never though. Cheers, HC! I reckon if it's a tour short enough for a singe novel then there's little difference between a book and a Kindle. But for l...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
Steve, I've just downloaded & bought your book on my kindle (not bad considering I'm on a Chinese ship off the coast of the Philippines at the moment). Our evening entertainment of table football & table tennis has just finished so it had better be a good read!! Cheers, Simon. I hope you en...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
It will be very interesting to see how you get on. I would guess a significant issue would be getting enough calories. I've found just going for leisure rides around my local lanes my calorie requirement increases dramatically. So on a tour the need for calories must be substantial and it will be i...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
No they used this as a strategy to test their software and sell more books. It's not available in every country, but it is available. http://kindleworld.blogspot.no/p/countries-with-free-kindle-3g-access.html My Kindle's registered in the Isle of Man (which never had the free service) and I'm curre...

Re: Unique Cycling Tour...Riders Wanted
What are you going to do for fuel and water? I'm looking into fuel at the moment. Water can be from fountains or cemeteries (in France) but it is the one thing we are allowed to knock on doors and ask for since it is (almost) free. Wild camping in a group could be interesting. It's fairly easy for ...
