Re: weather forecast gadget

...when cows lie down in the field... No, seriously ! I have heard of cycle tourers taking these Kestrel devices along. They have a good range of products depending on what features you need and the price you are prepared to pay. http://www.kestrel-direct.com/shop/home.do I have not got on...

Re: Short tours - worth going abroad

Can anyone tell me if the cheap French hotel chains ( eg Formule 1 etc) allow you to take your bikes into the rooms like our beloved Travelodges do? I have only used them once and there was no reception. I used a credit card at the door to get a code and used the code to enter the place and the roo...

Re: Best action camera on the market

A bit cheaper than the Hero, I have just bought a Delkin Wingman HD. It looks just like the Hero in the waterproof casing. It is well specced and it played straight onto the TV. Bought it in the local camera shop and they sold out almost straight away ! This is it: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorc...

Re: Short tours - worth going abroad

It is nice to pack up and head off for a bit and just getting on the ferry and rolling down the ramp in France is great feeling. Being in France again with all the differences that are familiar to you, speaking a bit of French if you can, working out the area codes on French number plates, taking it...

Re: Boycott Scotland - Do Not Holiday There

It all sounds like to much hassle, climbing around on a big rock in the middle of the sea - can't they just release them in front of a load of toffs in a field for them to shoot for fun - like they do pheasants ?

Re: Boycott Scotland - Do Not Holiday There

backwards band of interbred crazies....poxy little country you wouldn't write that about a nation such as latvia or somalia would you? I think you may have hit the nail on the head - Moral Relativism. Doesn't hat mean that it is ok for all kinds of barbaric acts to be committed by foreign peoples b...

Re: EU

When these other 26 countries submit their budgets to Brussels for approval - I bet the first comment from Brussels will be take it back and add a few more billion to the EU contributions. The City of London and the financial services industry is not important to the EU, what seems really important ...

Re: Growth

If a company makes more profit doesn't it pay more tax on those profits ? Isn't that a good thing ? Isn't that where some of the redistribution of wealth comes from ? No tax receipts means no government and no infrastructure - like Somalia - nobody investing in anything productive, no jobs, no money...

Re: Pamir Hwy, which Schwalbe tyres please?

The Marathon Mondial is pretty much the replacement for the XR by the looks of it. It has the highest protection rating I believe. Andrew I am sorry but it does not. Look again at the website and you will see that the Mondial has a protection rating level of "5" but the Marathon Plus Tour...

Re: Pamir Hwy, which Schwalbe tyres please?

I can only make a suggestion, never having completed such a tour. However, on my last trip I changed the rear to a 26 x 2.00 Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tour which is a very substantial tyre ! It weighs in at about 1.1 kg ! but what a tyre ! That would be my suggestion anyway. edit: quick picture : tyre ...

Re: Training for a long trek - whats the best technique

A bit of hiking is a great way to build strength in your legs, if you have any trails around your way. I am lucky round here because we have miles of cliff paths along the coast. Terrific for low impact all weather training. Also a pleasant way to get some exercise in. I find that cycling is fairly ...

Re: Flybe & Cycles to Frankfurt

Amsterdam - Southampton
Gatwick - Guernsey

Used Flybe a few times - both cardboard bike boxe and fabric bike bag. May I suggest taking the derailleur off as I have had issues with the (replaceable) derailleur hanger being bent.

Re: your best place/pic from 2011

Wow, amazing pics.

Can this be turned into an annual competition ? it would be a very prestigious award to win - CTC Cycle Touring Picture of the Year. Calendars, books, publicity - (please stop me if you think I am getting carried away :D )

Just a thought

Re: your best place/pic from 2011

Just crested the Julierpass in Switzerland, and then on down the road to Silvaplana/St Moritz in August this year The forecast was for the weather to improve, so waited a day and sure enough the sun came out :D http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww155/Mattie660/Goingdownresize.jpg
