Re: TfL Paper maps

Those are both really kind answers, thanks folks. Actually, the only map I need is number 11. I had submitted my copy to Lewisham Council Transport Planning Department when they proposed extended pedestrian/ cycling routes in the Borough. I had annotated my map to show their proposed routes, as all ...

TfL Paper maps

OK, Haven't ordered any recently but can't seem to find the link to these on the TfL website any more. Have they been discontinued?

Re: Baldies, how do you protect your head from burning under your helmet.

Whatever you do, wear something. I developed actinic solar keratosis (sic) awkward skin lesions and lectures from my doctors and dermatologists. Could develop into skin cancers. I’m of the ginger hue, now bald on top. I worked and cycled in The Sudan then as a teacher in the UK where sports coaching...

Noisy Brooks saddle

Ok, rather bizarre question; I have a noisy Brooks saddle. I have used the Brooks Saddle treatment to no avail as did tightening the bolt. Doesn’t seem to sag down to the seat post so no obvious physical reason. As it’s just had a replacement bolt fitted by Brooks, I doubt it’s a mechanical fault. A...

Re: Covid 19 and Spitting

Ah, sense of something at last in the immediate last two posts. Putting a large spittoon on my handlebars for next journey and another on the floor next the turbo. Durst not try it by the rollers; balance already precarious

Re: Covid 19 and Spitting

I’m starting to get a righteous picture here: a small change of thought perhaps for you all! My dad contracted TB in his late teens and went into isolation. Came out after several months and was quite healthy until WW2. Volunteered straight away but essentially should have been rejected. Posted to J...

Re: Ride with a buddy?

Quotation from Carlton Green,“ Because I’m not vulnerable I’ll cycle alone, but I have no doubt that there definitely are circumstances where the greater good is served by riders having a safe distance buddy. In life there are always instances where we focus so hard on avoiding one hazard that we fa...

Re: Ride with a buddy?

There will be no Club Group Rides during the Covid-19 social distancing period.

Please do continue cycling – alone or with a buddy at a safe distance.”

Re: Ride with a buddy?

Look carefully at some cycling club guidelines; they’re not so specific folks. It’s bad enough having to take turns in the turbo with my non cycling wife. Saddle swap and height change forced me to buy a new seat post

Ride with a buddy?

Ok having been splattered on my thread re Spitting, I’ll raise another issue. Government guidelines say not to ride unless it’s with someone in your own household. On two club sites, the current suggestion is find a buddy to ride with. Am I right to be concerned?

Re: Covid 19 and Spitting

Wow a different turn. Went out after posting this original thread start, to return to the replies and find I’m a pariah. Ride today was not strenuous but spotted a lot of kitted out cyclists but not in club gear. Lot of spitting at the top of Westow Hill as they recovered from that beastly ascent. N...

Covid 19 and Spitting

Ok, spitting is not necessarily high etiquette in social circumstances but when cycling, it is necessary. However, is the consensus that you shouldn’t in these days of Covid 19? Must say, after a real slog, I can’t see how it can be curbed. Obviously cycling alone there’s no whip back effect on othe...
