Got out of bed freshly ready to tackle said bottom bracket and yes, the use of an adjustable was all it needed. the ball bearings were fairly rubbish and the spindle is a bit gnarled so must see what my local shop can fix me up with. many thanks again. Mike :)

Thanks guys. Am about to get dirty again this weekend. Will follow the straight routes you suggest although the local bike shop suggested a 36mm open spanner. The pictures of the restoration are great. May tempt me away from anything too drastic.

Raleigh Rapide Bottom Bracket

Have stripped an old rapide ( circa 1968) and not having the exact tool for the bb. It is easy enough to get the toothed lockring off but the actual fitment below stumps me. it is is old fashioned tv shape ie. a rounded off rectange surrounding the axle spindle. Seem to be about 3mm deep. Is there a...
