Re: Couldn't find my seal skin cap....

Forgot my gloves one dry cold winter morning. Before long the cold was too much too bear and needing functioning fingers I ended up taking my socks off to warm my hands. Cold toes and funny looks when I got to work but certainly made my hands feel better...

Re: We, the cyclists demand...

Manufacturers do not make any money from selling things that last forever, so demand away but don't hold your breath! Engineering a hub that will last your average cyclists entire lifetime is easy enough and economically viable but remains a niche market. That said, I do not think the alfine 8 needs...

Re: Raleigh Airlite 300 Tiagra 2012 - buy?

Hi

I tried one of these but didn't buy. They size up big and the 55cm fitted me (just) even though I am 6foot. The 59cm felt way too big...

Good price, if I was looking for this type of bike it would be high on the short list.

Re: Cycle to Work scheme

Good point about spreading the cost, something which is a greater benefit for many people than the sometimes meagre overall saving...

As I said before, it has worked out nicely for me and I cannot really see why some people seem to object so vehemently...

Re: Cycle to Work scheme

Certainly bikes seem to be becoming more expensive over the past few years, but then so has nearly everything. I do suspect the cycle schemes introduce an degree of price inflation across the board though and this would be a risk with something lie a vat reduction too...

Re: Cycle to Work scheme

That is a reasonable point, which is perhaps why a vat reduction may have been more effective. As it goes I use my work bike for work. End of. My "conscience" is clean. However, if others choose to buy a bike cheaply via ctw schemes and they end up loving cycling then I consider that it is...

Re: Toe Overlap on Charge Mixer

Yes, that thread is a corker! Of course the mixer has ebb so there is a little scope to reduce toe overlap by adjusting the ebb to the rear. However the tap does not have this option as it has normal bottom bracket and slot dropouts...

Re: Appreciate feedback on the Charge Tap

Hi I had a charge mixer until very recently. The frame is almost identical to the tap, but for ebb and disc mounts. The geometry was a bit odd, quite short in length with toe overlap issues if that upsets you. Also the head tube is shortish so you are naturally in a quite crouched position, which is...

Re: Cycle to Work scheme

I picked up my new bike scheme bike today. I ordered it in the sales from edinburgh bike cooperative just after Xmas, they emailed me and my employers and within a week they contacted me to have me sign the relevant papers at my HR dept. I then arranged to pick up the bike at my convenience, althoug...

Re: Bike Dog Walking Devices

Tony, I have used the walkydog dozens of times now. It is holding up well. The seatpost attachment is rusting slightly as it mild steel. I will clean it off and lacquer it at some point and if I were buying new would do this straight away.. The actual attachment is milled aluminium and is weathering...

Re: Bike Dog Walking Devices

That last post is cobblers. Are all dogs the same? I enjoy both walking and riding with my dogs. They enjoy both activities... Riding a bike with them is not lead training, it is just another fun activity that an active intelligent dog will really enjoy. Have you ever tried wearing a collie out on a...

Re: Bike Dog Walking Devices

Another reason why I chose the walky dog. It detaches from the bike in a flash and as it has a padded handle doubles up as a lead. So I can stop the bike anytime, hop off and detach the lead and just walk. Obviously I have to walk the bike too, or stand it somewhere and let the dogs have a sniff aro...

Re: Bike Dog Walking Devices

Hi mate Congrats on the rescue dog! I highly recommend walkydog. Walky.co.uk They are not the cheapest but are very robust. Have used mine dozens of times for light and relatively savage off roading. I have two rescue Dogs and they absolutely love it now they are used to it. Need to do a bit of init...

A one off blood pressure reading at your gp's is more or less meaningless other than to spot really high or low readings and flag for follow up testing...
