Re: Hatred against Cyclists

Why do people believe that cyclists have to be held to a standard of perfection in order to be treated with basic decency? That belief is a useful way to attack us. Road congestion means that there is competition for road space. We take up space which could be used by motors. And we slow them down....

Re: H&S and Risk assessments

The continued promotion of helmets in training is, I think, a cock-up on multiple fronts more than a conspiracy. Pete. A conspiracy does not need to be conscious and explicit to be effective. When interests and world views coincide it is easy to accede to this sort of nonsense. "Common sense i...

Re: The Green Bicycle Mystery

what struck me was not the murder but the simple fact that something as simple as a bike gave Bella a life she would never had had, made her mobile, if only by 5 miles. We take it all so much for granted now. I remember an old film from the black and white days about this matter with that famous Br...

Apart from the food and drink there is a great resemblance between air travel and bus travel.

Re: Hatred against Cyclists

Is it something to do with speaking English? Perhaps the language memes are somehow inducing these poor mental states? In the USA, Britain and Australia, othering and their subsequent persecution seems to be the current norm. As another poster notes, there's far more tolerance for others in greater...

Re: Tory leader - place your bets

People who have more influence on who will be our next P.M. than most of us. Donors to Johnson's or Hunt's leadership campaigns. I am sure they are giving money out of public spirit. A climate change denier. A director of tax haven based companies. A fox hunting enthusiast. A banker with links to th...

We need more information for diagnosis at a distance.
Front or rear chain wheel?
Does the derailleur which moves the chain sideways move when you move the hand lever?

Yes, much pavement riding is not down to lack of respect for law or police.

Re: Why do drivers think this acceptable?

When I was 12 I rode on the pavement once, I was stopped by a Policeman who took my name and address. We lived in camberley, 1969, there were very few cars and rarely a pedestrian. But whilst we never feared the Police I, and most others were brought up by our parents to have respect for others, it...

Re: H&S and Risk assessments

Absolutely agreed, anyone in industrial H&S knows that PPE is bottom of the list in 'Hierarchy of controls', if ONLY we could get the general public, politicians, safety 'campaigners' and other cyclists to understand that there are many many things to tackle before helmet wearing it would be a ...

Re: Hatred against Cyclists

I am off to Ch5 HQ. I shall be pitching a new docco: " **** in Audis : Are they selfish ******s that **** everyone off?" Some Audi Drivers and some normal people have their say on who are the biggest ******s. Attacking Audi drivers would certainly get more general agreement than pointing ...

Re: Hatred against Cyclists

A fairly obvious thought is provoked. Has there ever been a Motorists : Scourge of the Streets equivalent documentary? Yes, but they've generally been Trojans for the motoring lobby to complain about private parking companies and congestion charges (I'm thinking of ITV's "Driving: The True Cos...

Re: Why do drivers think this acceptable?

Just to answer the title question directly, I don't think most drivers do think that is acceptable. I believe that a dangerous minority do. Yes, I think you are correct. It's the bad ones we notice more of course. In my rural Norfolk, I notice what seems to be a distinct 2 'types' of motorist, part...
