Why not you?

I did. The chicane was put in using metal bollards taken from somewhere else and when they were installed they were left with jagged, rusting edges where rails had been removed from them. The way they've been put in makes it impossible to ride through, it's even difficult to scoot a bike bike through it. You may as well shout at the wind. How can you have any respect for an organisation that cannot even follow its own much trumpeted designs? I'm sure that many of the volunteers are energetic and enthusiastic but it looks like they're lead by donkeys

We recently had a meeting with Councillors & Sustrans managers regarding the access problems created by 'A' frames, chicanes ,kissing gates etc.
However, I would rather see more dedicated dual use paths of limited width, than not having facilities at all.

Re: Cycle Paths

I can't honestly think of a single "narrow" road where I live that has a cycle path next to it. The idea that a narrow road would have enough room to either side that had not been used for carriageway widening but had been used to provide a three metre wide shared use footway is, in the UK, very unlikely :?

Re: Action camera that doesn't fog

I haven't tried antidote sheets, most people seem to find that they make little or no difference.

The case is said to be air tight to a couple of metres. There is a seal around the lens dome which probably restricts the flow of air around the lens but it probably also offers some protection to the lens .

Silica gel packs, even several stuttering the case make no difference.

Action camera that doesn't fog

Hello, I've been using a Sony Az20 for couple of years and generally it's good, small, easy to use, good image stabilization, loose battery though. The main problem is that in cooler and cold weather the housing, especially the dome above the lens, steams badly. I've tried just about every remedy suggested on the net from drilling holes in out of the way parts of the case to silica gel pouches and kitchen towel, which actually seems to work best.

As the camera is now a few years old I was wondering about a replacement and wondered if anyone can recommend a camera, with image stabilization, that doesn't fog?

Using the LH lane is both incorrect and dangerous - the TI near me is marked on one approach as LH+ S and the adjacent exit has a collision almost every day - the other approaches are marked LH only and don't have the issue.

Totally agree but there seems to be an increasing number of drivers who think that being in the left lane is correct when doing a manoeuvre like that, and of course only indicating just before the exit they want. I had a near miss a few weeks ago when I stupidly assumed a driver in the left lane, with no indicators visible, was taking the first exit across and not the second, stupidly I pulled out and only a heavy foot on the accelerator saved the day, good job I wasn't on the bike! I'm back to assuming every other driver is an idiot, and sadly not being proved wrong.

If anyone ever brings up something like this simply point that that there is no provision in the TSRGD for any such sign, and wait for the confused look as they realise they don't know what they're talking about

Viagra 4700 left lever stuck

Just got a nice new shiney bike with a Viagra group set on it. Took it out this morning, short hilly ride to a local ATM. I decided to check the gears so clicked through all the combinations with no problems. On the way I changed down on the front for a hill and back up at the top no problem. At the foot of the next hill I go to change down and the lever swings across with no resistance and no click. I then tried the up shift, a lever, the lever won't move out of the line of the lever hoods.

When I got home I checked the cable alignment, all looks fine. I released the cable and the detailed changed down to the small ring. The up shift lever still has limited movement and the down shift swinging with no clicks. I've tried pushing the cable back through the over but I'm sure the lever needs to be in a certain position for installation / removal of the cable so I think it probably in the wrong position.

Has any one had a similar problem , it appears to be quite common, and if so is there a solution short of taking it back for a replacement lever to be fitted? :(

Re: road surfaces after the winter

Utility companies are not normally allowed to do planned works within one years of a road being resurfaced, if the works were over 30 m in length, unless the works are emergency repairs for leaks etc or the ha agrees to it ( NRSWA section 58). The case above where the road was completely resurfaced may have been a condition of such a consent.

Utilities have six months to permantly reinstate the road surface after works are completed and have to provide a guarantee for two years, during which they are liable for any repairs. The guarantee period starts from the date of the permanent reinstatement rather than the date the hole was filled.

Last year's model through bike2work

Does any one know what would happen if you put in an order with a b2w scheme for an end of line model and it sold out before your request cleared? Would the voucher lapse of would you be blocked from getting another for a year?

ZoeRPM wrote:Unfortunately, this falls foul of the 20-year rule but if you can stall the process for five years, you can establish the right of way as a Bridle Path (other than cycle lanes on roads there is no such thing as a cycle path under English law).

If a path has been laid out in such a way that people are able to presume that it is for their use, and the presence of cycle path/ nr signs suggests it has been, certainly as far as cyclists are concerned, then the twenty year rule can be side stepped by using common law or deemed dedication. This process can require much less than twenty years use but there must be someone who is in a position to dedicate the way. At some point there must have been a decision made by an officer in the council to open the way open to cyclists, possibly by delegated decision so you may try to argue that they were the person able to dedicate the way. This would depend on the council not having a section 31 deposit to block the creation of new row. This wouldn't prevent the way being stopped up using planning or highway legislation.

BTW third crank you forgot restricted byways which allow a horse drawn carriage but no mechanically propelled vehicles.
