Re: La Rochelle to Barcelona
Thank you, really helpful info. I'll be quite tight on time so following the canal route might be a good option.

Re: Andalucia and Pico Veleta
Try August. I cycled up on the 28th August last year, it was a challenge I'd set myself to accomplish having had a bi-lateral hip replacement 9 months before. 40degrees in Granada but a very pleasant 28degrees on the summit and just a light breeze. I used an enigma, titanium road bike with 24mm tyre...

Re: Info on route from Las Alpujarras to Malaga
Thank you for the responses. I'm heading off at the end of the month for a round trip from Malaga incorporating the Pica de Valeta and Alpujarras so this would be part of the return journey.

Info on route from Las Alpujarras to Malaga
Has anyone out there used the mountain/forest track between Albunuelas and Jayena. I was wondering how passable it was for lightly loaded touring bikes with 25mm tyres?
Or

Re: Shetland Orkney Mainland
I live in Shetland and know that when travelling to the mainland via Kirkwall and taking the first ferry out of Stromness to Thurso you can get B&B on the ferry alongside in Stromness. My husband and daughter last used it in March of this year but whether it's a facility just for Islanders I'm n...

Re: Lanzarote June 2014
I stayed in Arrieta last month which is very close to Punta Mujeres. Road bike would be my choice although I did also see plenty of mountain bikers about. There is an excellent coast road north to Orzola and some good loops that can be done but you must be prepared to climb. The route past Tabaesco ...

Re: dogs
A very angry dog gave chase when I was cycling alone in an isolated part of Central Spain, no cars and no habitation in sight. It just didn't want to give up and I can admit to be very scared as it came within snapping distance and I could see it meant business. Miraculously just when I thought I wa...

Re: What did you forget?
Not me but my team mate forgot his seat and seatpost when we travelled to an event a couple of years ago. We have to fly to the UK mainland and the bikes get packed in cases. Rather than not take part he rode the entire 50mile event without them(in a very decent time too) hovering in mid air!

Re: Pico de Valeta, Sierra Nevada
Thank you so much for that, you answer a lot of the questions I had. I'll probably fly to Malaga and take the touring bike from there, Do you think the start of October would be leaving it too late?

Pico de Valeta, Sierra Nevada
Doea anyone have any experience of cycling the 3392m Pico de Valeta? I hope to attempt this during the summer and would welcome any advice.

Re: Shetland Islands - Between Christmas and New Year
I live and cycle throughout the year in Shetland so it is possible but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone as a mid-winter destination. I commute to work by bike and experience some seriously extreme weather throughout the winter months. Winds are frequently well in excess of 30kts and snowy...

I recently received a promotion email from Jet2 promoting 'cycling holidays' to Mallorca and offering free bike carriage up to 20kilo so it might be worth looking at.

Have you enquired whether there's any parking provision at the ferry terminal?
