Moving a Schlumpf Drive...
I've bitten the bullet and hired the Schlumpf cutting tool for a bit.
So I'm going to shift the drive from the Rapto (which will need a replacement) to the ICE Sprint.
Will get me 17.5-127 GI gearing (4-30mph @ 80RPM) alongside the motor...
Anyone fitted them before?
The Rapto will then need a new chainset, I haven't decided whether to go ST or use the spare hollowtechII I have in the drawer.
Need to work out chainring sizes though (and a sane shifter - the heel shift was great)

Schlumpf Mountain Drive/Short cranks
I ride my recumbents with a mixture of short cranks length 130mm to 150mm.
The minimum available Schlumpf crank length is 155mm but being forged cranks they are easy to shorten.
The distance from the centre of my cleat to the widest part of my heel is 160mm.
The question is how easy is it to change gear on the Mountain Drive.
Does the button need a firm push or a light tap.
What is the best pedal/cleat combination to use.
Am I opening up a can of worms that results in a poor and erratic gear change.
Any help or advice would be very welcome.
Thanks

1315% Rohloff/Schlumpf
Just curious and thought I'd ask, came across the following site, a firm that does conversions using Rohloffs and Schlumpf drives:
http://www.cyclemonkey.com/schlumpf-innovations.shtml
Down the page, it says using the Schlumpf Mountain Drive option and Rohloff combination, a 1315% range is achieved. Now, the standard Rohloff is 526%, whilst the Nexus 8 speed is just over 300. Out of interest, what would 1315% be useful for? Mount Everest...?

Schlumpf Mountain Drive (Adds extra low gearing via bottom b
Schlumpf Mountain Drive (http://www.schlumpf.ch/hp/schlumpf/faq. ... e.engl.htm) for sale. Was fitted to my wife's Hase Kettwiesel trike but has almost zero use as we use the trikes as a tandem and my Kett now has an electric motor in the front, making the Schlumpf somewhat redundant.
Fitting the Schlumpf is fairly straightforward, although you will need a special tool to cut a 45 degree chamfer on the right hand side of the bottom bracket. I bought the drive from [www.kinetics.org.uk] who made a nominal charge to borrow the tool. I'm sure they would hire it out for a reasonable sum.
This is a lot less daunting than it sounds and does not prevent the original system being re-fitted to the bike. The drive comes with all of the bits needed to fit it along with assembly instructions.
Sells new for £500, asking £325.

One man handcycle Schlumpf problem
Hi guys, this is a plea on behalf of my brother who is currently en route from JOG to lands end for sports relief. He should be around Birmingham by this evening.
he is using a handcycle which is fitted with a schlumpf mountain drive, however it is stuck in low gear and no matter how we tried to adjust it over the weekend, we could not get it to stay reliably in high gear. Quite often it would spin freely instead of engaging in high gear.
Does anyone know of anyone or anywhere he could call in to take a look either today or tomorrow. He should be somewhere between 1100 and 1300 on the route in the link below. There are many things that he has done wrong in his journey and he has learned A LOT of lessons, this is setting him back a great deal though.
If anyone knows of someone who could help then it would be much appreciated.

Schlumpf Mountain Drive
Does any one familiar with the Schlumpf Mountain Drive know if there are always four planet gears in the gear drive as I have one with only two, which seems a bit odd. There is the holes for another two.
Their web site info always shows four.
I'm just wondering if its been the victim of the lightweight brigade bodging society.

Schlumpf HSD for Raptobike
I`ve took the plung and ordered a Schlumpf high speed drive for my Raptobike..I`ve read various comments on this forum and others. What I did notice is those that some who don`t own one have negative comments towards it. I compared then with those negative comments about the Rohloff hub . As I have a MTB with Rohloff I`m very impressed . Therefore I`ve gone with my gut feeling.
I`ve attached some modifications I`ve done to my Raptobike for those that have one or intend to get one. They address some issues about the idlers. Namely catching clothing in the rear idler (or flesh) and the need for a special tool to tighten the idler bolts.
This is made of 1.6mm Ali
And fixed with velcro
So far so good. 4 rides and no problems
Also creating 2 flats on the bolt head removes the need for a special tool

Schlumpf Speed drive
I'm getting a Birdy on the cyclescheme which I'll be using with my wife for light touring. With this in mind there's a Schlumpf option which will extend the gear range of the 8 speed (sub £1000) model for £230. (Schlumpf usually about £450). Before I buy it are there any Schlumpf horror stories, or even praise? I should know about?......

Shimano Nexus 7 speed hub + Schlumpf drive?
I've got a perfectly good Trek 6045 nexus seven speed hub geared city bike up for sale on eBay because the gears aren't low enough for my new cross country 11 commute. I thought about putting a small chain ring on her but that didn't seem practical as then it would have no top end and be badly undergear
A crazy thought has entered my head - any point thinking about adding a Schlumpf High Speed Drive or Mountain Drive to it or is that just good money after bad?

Schlumpf mountain drive tool
Has anyone got the box spanner or "C" spanner for undoing the b/b lock ring on a Mountain Drive ?
If so would you be willing to loan it to me ?
I will of course cover any costs.
Thanks

Schlumpf mountain drive
Does anyone know whether the Schlumpf mountain drive is suitable for use on a mountain bike?
My thinking is that fitted on to a singlespeed with maybe a 38/18 ring and sprocket then it would give a suitably low bottom and a reasonable top as the Schlumpf has a 1:1 direct and a 2.5:1 low.
I guess the real issue is whether the Schlumpf is suitably robust and well sealed enough to keep the water and muck out.....
Common sense says not because surely otherwise someone would be selling them.
Anyone got any experience of this?
Thx in advance, Ant

Schlumpf & Birdy Red
I have a Birdy Red that's about 6 years old.
It's a great bike, but the (8-speed) gearing is somewhat limited.
I was thinking of fitting a Schlumpf drive, but I don't know which one to get. Arithmetic is not my strong point. Anyway, I don't need a high gear, but I'd like to go down to 25" as the lowest gear, maybe even lower.
Apart from Kinetics (too far away) has anyone experience of having one of these fitted to a Birdy - or any bike for that matter?
Are there any pitfalls with this sort of gearing?
