I'm not really widely travelled though know much of western/central Europe well. I've been in some dodgy pubs, clubs and bars but the only place I've been where I walked into a pub and known we (there were two of us) definitely shouldn't be in there was New Zealand. A biker gang was in there (and apparently there are both white supremacist and Maori biker gangs). It was not pleasant and very different to the 'lovely, wonderful, peaceful, New Zealand' image which is normally portrayed.

The Mongrel Mob are a notoriously violent criminal biker gang in NZ.

I've enjoyed lockdown too.

Somewhat bizarrely I've seen more people that I'd lost contact with during lockdown then ever.
My house seems to be on a major dog walking / cycling path and then when I'm out running they're now all out walking.
The countryside is great round here, lots of woods, canal and linear sections of park all joined up by paths away from traffic. When I see people complaining (locally) about being locked in I honestly don't understand it.

The woods, parks, commons around here are also easily accessible and busy with folk out walking.
I have a mate who lives out your way, about 200m from where Ron Spencer Cycles was,and despite the area being full of old back-to-back terrace houses he seems to know where to go to walk his Whippets.
What's surprises me is the amount of people you talk to who say "I've lived here 25+ years and never been in these woods/park".I wonder if such people will still use the woods once the restrictions are lifted.......?

All we know so far is that she left the UK as a 15 year schoolgirl to live in the territory controlled by ISIS and apparently with the intention of marrying a jihadist.
She would have had to have committed much more serious acts to justify withdrawing citizenship, since those acts alone would hardly constitute the necessary significant threat to national security.

Which basically means she joined a Terrorist organisation. She knew exactly what she was getting into. There is too much emphasis on her age. It's irrelevant IMO.
I have a 13 year old.He knows exactly what he's doing when he makes a decision. He's a 'child' only in the eyes of the law.I left home at 15 in March 1984 and was on the Picket-line at Orgreave and other places a couple of months later when I turned 16.I wasn't a child then and they grow up a lot faster now than even we did.
Hopefully this will be the last we hear about her.

No evidence has been presented yet that she has committed an act of terrorism. The Secretary of State should have been given evidence that she had comitted a serious terrorist act of some form to justify his decision to withdraw citizenship. Most government decisions can be tested in court by judicial review to ensure that the Secretary of State did act lawfully, something which is especially important in cases like this where a punishment as severe as withdrawal of citizenship is concerned.

I don't think the withdrawal of her British Citizenship was a punishment. It was justified on grounds of public safety.

She joined a terrorist group. That itself is an act of terrorism.

It varies. Some don't support the vaccine full stop.
Some don't support the vaccination strategy.
The consensus on the fall out from all this is pretty much the same though. We've seen it here.No vaccine-no NHS job. Those who won't be having it are worried they'll 'forced' to via emotional blackmail etc.

I don't work for the NHS but have already had a Shift manager tell me that "in my opinion if you don't have it the company should sack you".I won't repeat what I told him he can do with his thoughts!
It's happening and it shouldn't be.The vaccine is becoming compulsory for some by the back door.Where does it end?
There's already talk of a Covid-passport.What next?Flu-passport?Cold-passport?Gay-pasport?We are heading in the wrong direction.

Re: I don't like living in England....

I'm in my mid-50s and wish I was 18 again right now.Yes things are different but I believe in progress.I love just how far tech has moved on in the last 10 years let along in the (almost) 40 years since I left school.I would love to still be around in 50,100 or 200 years. If I could give up every single thing I have right now for immortality I would.I wouldn't have to think about it!
As much as I loved growing up in the 70s and 80s I do think we look back at stuff through rose tinted glasses sometimes.
I do still love living here but would also like to live elsewhere.I don't get attached to things like area, property etc so could easily move on.

Whether they are employed by the NHS or not is irrelevant. They are entitled to their opinion! Many of our friends work for the NHS and many of them do not support this.Your employer, whether NHS or not should not be allowed to dictate your views!

Yet those brake callipers scream low budget, and of course the pedals. Of course they may have been changed.

I agree which is why I said up thread it's possibly worth less than he paid.
Ghost are a very well respected MTB brand.Probably bigger/better known on the Continent.I remember when they and Canyon/Focus etc started to gain a reputation here about 15/16 years ago.I still have a 2007 Focus Variado frame-set hung up in the shed. When I bought it you hardly ever saw a Focus Road bike here. For all we know(if it is indeed a Ghost) it is/was possibly their bottom end offering.

My optimism doesn't go that far, I too can't see how it can be fixed.

It does however stretch to believing we can avert some of the worst of the consequences by taking action now although I stand by my belief that we as individuals can't (or won't) make those changes and that ultimately it requires gov intervention.

It requires more than our Govt. intervention.Although that would be a start(and possibly unpopular) it needs all the major World players to sing from the same Hymn sheet.Once(if) that ever happens then pressure needs to be put on the smaller players to follow suit.I think we're probably two or three generations from there!

There was a shop near where I live “Supercycles” - now closed down, that used to sell Ghost road bikes in the mid- noughties.

We need the OP to confirm the actual gearing!
If it is 7-speed it's possibly a bit older than 5 years.Ghost aren't a 'budget' brand so it might well be from the mid-noughties?I'm guessing, due to the shape, that the Fork is Alluminium too.it looks in half decent nick but I think it is quite an old bike.

kwackers wrote:Is steel annealed when it's created as 'raw' ingots? AFAIK steel is only annealed as a final product when sized etc.
(There doesn't seem much point in annealing something only to heat it up and batter / draw it out to size again.)

It depends on the Steel and what it is manufactured for.
The 'Triple melt' Steel we 'remelt' for Aero-space could be Annealed 3 or 4 times before it leaves us in bar form. It's a complicated process that requires multiple sawing/testing/surface grinding/melting/sawing/testing/grinding.Some grades have to be annealed before being sawn. The is no way of shortening the process.Once it leaves our dept it will go through several other depts.
One remelt on a triple-melt ingot takes roughly 16 hours(under vacuum)for a 6 tonne ingot or 23 hours for a 7 tonne. Each melt uses anything from 9000-14000KW of Electricity.Between each melt it will then be Annealed in a Gas Annealer for 36hrs minimum before going for testing/sawing/grinding.Massive usage of Electricity and Gas when you take into account that we have 9 VAR and 2 ESR furnaces running 24/7 for 51 weeks of the year.
I am currently seeing out my time in the VIM furnace.I'm not up on the figures/costing yet but it still isn't cheap!

There was a big push to try and save £4.5m per annum on Gas&Electricity on our site alone. That's save not spend!
When trying to cost cut after the 2008 crash they 'followed' a bar from start to finish and estimated t had covered almost 30 miles going up and down the process route. That was when we got it.All our Ingots are initially cast off-site at our sister site so have to be brought in on Locos.

So me switching off lights, sockets etc is doing nothing more than an making me feel warm and fuzzy inside whilst my place of work uses enough Gas&Electricity to power a small town every day!
