Re: Fine adjustment of saddle tilt
Another thing to try, take the seat off, separate the lowwer rail support, the serrated one, turn it round 180 deg, and refit. Reason being on some seatposts the serrations are slightly off set, so spinning it round alters the starting point, if you know what I mean. I have now got a nitto 2 bolt jobby, and with a Spa /Brooks, 1/4 of a turn of either front or back does make a noticeable difference.
But if you are strapped for cash, another bodge, is use a thin alloy or steel spacer, say 2mm thick to start, undo bolt enough to be able to raise serrated saddle rails, then rotate splines back,( so its just too much) then insert spacer at the back of the clamp, between lower saddle clamp, and seat post, push it in maybe 2 serations , or even only 1,!, then clamp up tight. This has the effect of 'halving each angle.

Re: What premium to support LBS?
unless they pricematch. eg
daughter looking for new Dyson, special one for dust allergens, it was £528 everywhere, even John Lewis, EXCEPT...Go electrical , where it was £279 on line , but linked to a shop, so could be used for price comparison, so she got it for £279 at JL, made them cough a bit, We did the same thing with a Dyson V8 Animal, got it for £329 instead of £470. Support your local , yes if they will play ball. Thing is, my LBS is run by youngsters, and if its not in last years catalogue, then it doesn't exist and never has. pah!

Chat Noir wrote:Well, the tent arrived this afternoon, ordered early Wednesday evening, no charges on top for couriering. Really well packaged, obviously brand new and no obvious faults to suggest a second. Not sure what year but various websites suggest to me this is no older than 2015 and may even be the current model – certainly not an issue for us. In terms of value, this is exceptional.
Only erected in our sitting room but we both really like the design: vertical sides, bit wider than our lightweight Vaude Taurus UL, which weighs 1900 g, we like the twin doors (we had a Fjallraven tent in the early 1980s which was great for a few years - under 3 kg, packed small and doors on each side. We still have it but Alpine trips and UV mean no longer suitable for camping trips, just playing in the garden).
Weighs a bit more than the Vaude, at tad over 3.3 kg (the poles weigh 600 g) but could probably easily get down a pound or two if required. Agree with Bretonbikes, the bags are very decent size and robust. I tend to pack the tent on the rack lengthways. Currently using one of the Tortec ones (cheap version of Tubus), and never have a problem with the narrowness – the panniers keep anything on top in place. To reduce weight we use dry bags to keep things in on the top.
My partner and I don’t usually go very lightweight these days so I think we are going to be pleased with our purchase – thank you again to all those who have recommended this tent.
Here's a picture of the bikes sheltering from the heat in Brittany in June.

Good choice and only took eight months to decide As I posted back then, my Coleman was excellent value, never let me down and refined just what I wanted from a tent.

I know, This is what I started looking at, but the more I looked, the more I thought I wanted, without any actual experience, but the cost was starting to exceed 4 x this one ( ok it WAS only £60 on special). Its a start, now I can look at bags/quilts/mats etc, even more of a mine field.

I use my tourer for skoggy ruff stuff, so having 2 working brakes all the time without the grinding paste is nice, but as you say not absolutely essential.

Re: Useless positioning of disc brakes on frames and what to do about it?
what about a couple of std bellows that come on (used to come on) V brakes, and the end of gear cables at the deraillier end. Just undo cable , slip on, and re fit cable. Keep meaning to do it mine, but never had a problem yet. What is more irritating is the full length outer cable, it would be simple to add a few slotted cable stops here and there and have an exposed inner, rather than all the outer flexing and being compressed, after all they ended up doing it for cantilevers and V brakes. Then its easy to flip out the cable and clean / lube as a maintenence job

Re: tent types (1 skin,2 skin, 3 skin...)
How many Bikes do I have? well 3, but havn't used 1 of them for 4 years, and 1 of then for 2 years since buying my Ridgeback world Panorama Deluxe disc brake tourer, it really is my do it all bike, including a lot of rough stuff, but not touring YET!! So I really only want one tent. Its a shame the Hex v4 isn't made the same as the Six moons, 850 g is a good weight, the bathtub is a floating type, so cond will run down out side the tub, it has a large vestibule outside the inner area. The prob with the v4 is not the tent, but the inner hanging low, in your face, and the only reason I can see for the inner is to stop your head touching the outer, that doubtless would be just as wet as a single skin, and you would have to wipe it down to packit away anyway.
