I may have expressed myself badly. I meant 'amen to everything Penfold said'. I agree with you, Penfold, and agree with your most recent post too. I think some sort of truth and reconciliation deal is needed.

Calling Hamilton and Landis scumbags, as McQuaid apparently did yesterday, is the latest demonstration, for me, that he is not the person to carry this forward.

Eeeeek, yes I rather got the wrong end of the stick, sorry   I blame Armstrong.

My comment was tongue in cheek towards the comments that suggested that everyone was equal because they were all cheating.

I was NOT suggesting we introduce EPO etc into school sports day ({FFE - family-friendly edit }!!)

My hope is that the UCI can start afresh, perhaps with the aid of an amnesty, and enforce their own regulations so us spectators can be 99% sure that the guys we are cheering on are NOT sponsored by Boots the chemist

So the ICU either change their rules so everyone can do it and the best chemist wins; or they sort it out and enforce the rules with merciless actions.

LA got me into cycling because I was just amazed at his story. I thought if he can do that after suffering from that then I can get my fat ass out the house and 'Just do it'

I have watched open mouthed at some of his attacks on the great Cols of the TdF and cheered him home as he's mounted the podium in Paris.

After reading the whole USADA report I feel like I've been mugged. I didn't really want to believe it, but it's all there, the lies, the cover ups, the encouragement of others to take part.

So one good thing LA did? He got me off my ass.

Re: Final nail for Armstrong?

Mike sales,

Thanks for that link to the Italian inquiry, the scale of which I was unaware of (I live in a draw in the garage)

So MUCH more to come, more heads to roll and perhaps the good Doctor is at risk of a hefty kick in the nads....

With Rabobanks withdrawal as a sponsor how long before the big TV channels also threaten to stop coverage of the sport, I for one am troubled to think that I cant watch a rider sweeping up some Col or other without thinking, "is he chemically assisted or not"

If I think that then what's the point of watching? Surely viewing figures will show signs of dropping off. Perhaps the huge amounts of money invested in the sport by TV or Sponsors is the biggest threat to hang over riders....After all, with this stupid 'rule of silence' amongst themselves it is THEY (riders) who are going to ultimately kill their own sport.

So it is the riders who must bring the change themselves........Have they the will? Is a 'tainted' title worth the ruining of your own good name? LA thought so, bet he would change his mind now though.

Re: Final nail for Armstrong?

UCI president Pat McQuaid said: "Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling. He deserves to be forgotten."

Titles gone and perhaps the court battles now start to recover monies paid to a cheat

The 'Legend' is over......Let's just hope that cycling as a sport can now get its house in order and any chemical cheats are thrown out for life. The UCI have to make it so its just NOT worth the risk.

Re: Funeral Estimates- Plans

Have just finished 'dealing' with late mother-in-laws funeral

Total bill came to £3K.......Which in light of some of the prices quoted in previous posts doesn't seem to bad.

That was everything that the funeral directors provided.

Of course the wake and flowers are not included in that fee....Don't start me on the price of flowers !!

Having dealt with both ends of the spectrum (Marriage + death) I can offer this.....Both are a damn rip off by the 'industry' that provides those services.

Re: Vango Spirit 200 + (plus) pole breakage?

Try this site:

http://www.tentspares.co.uk/category/9/ ... -Pole-Ends

I used them for one of my tents...they take a while to get done as each complete pole is custom made they don't simply get a new pole off the shelf.

Worth an e-mail I'd say.

Located 10 miles from Wolverhampton along the A449 or 3 miles from junction 13 of the m6 motorway (Stafford)

Very nice site with the village of Penkridge about a 20 minute walk away. Lots of pubs etc

Site has free showers, a shop and four fishing pools. No cycle specific features but a decent stop off point and friendly staff.

Re: Tent bargain?

Another vote for cheaper tents here:

I own a Pro Action (Argos) Hike Lite one man jobby. Cost me £24 from Argos and its the dogs do-dahs (IMHO)

You can still get them off e-bay at a decent price although the nice bright Orange colour puts a few off

Some reviews here:
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/p/Pro ... e-Lite/497

If it works who cares if it's under £50 or doesn't have some designer name on it.

Re: More Competitive School Sport

I was listening to Talksport radio today and there were many different sports clubs saying they have never had so many youngsters coming along to take part. These are the people who MAY just be the participants in future Olympic games. They have to have encouragement from schools, teachers, clubs and coaches.

Sadly they were saying that retention is the biggest hurdle to our future medal hopes, as many girls/boys leave their sports once they get to their late teens and discover alternatives to hard training.

Whatever happens I am full of admiration for all the good that London 2012 has done, If it inspires just one kid to go on and dedicate themselves to sport (in whatever field) then that's job done.

As I type this it stands at 60 gold medals for team GB and remember that just a few days in the red top papers were asking the question "where are the golds"

Brilliant, amazing, inspiring stuff.
