Re: Translation Apps (Get your phone to speak a foreign language for you)

I've found this app to be very good. You can either use it to translate text or spoken word

Re: Courier to ship a bike from Sussex to Belfast?

I've used these in the past and was very satisfied with their service. You should be able to source a cardboard box from your lbs although in the past Halfords have always been happy to let me have one.

Re: Liverpool to Manchester

Trans Pennine Trail would suit your needs. You can even start it from Southport into Liverpool along the old Cheshire Lines path. Very enjoyable

Re: Hello need advice

I rode Manchester/Oldham to Carlisle on my End to End over two days overnighting at YHA Ingleton. Its easier south to north. If you are coming from the north then there is a steep climb out of Dent. Shap to Penrith then Carlisle on the A6. It's a quiet route . PM me if you want details

Re: Route to Cape Wrath from Durness ferry

The Road is very bad in places depending on your fitness you may have to push a little but it is certainly rideable on a touring bike with 28inch or larger tyres.
You need to check the ferry times out and arrange a time to be picked up. Be prepared to spend more than one night on there if the the ferry man isn't able to pick you the next day.
Also check when the MOD say the area is open as its used as a firing range. Don't stray off the track!
There used to be a cafe at the lighthouse but I'm not sure if it's there any longer
Kervaig Bothy is a magical place a push down and back up the track but not to be missed.
Last time I was there some kind soul had left a bottle of rose wine and some salted nuts. Had a great night!

Re: New 1.5m Highway Code Rules

Case in points reinforces the argument that drivers should be obliged to ride a bike on the road as part of their driving test, however I wonder whether this will make them moderate their driving habits once passed .
Still it may give them an idea of the dangers of riding your bike on the road nowadays!

Re: Accident

What springs to mind is any witnesses, any written reports from you or you by the driver to his employer?
Value of your claim, repairs to bike, how much, got report of damage, receipt for repairs?
What are the extent of your injuries did you see a doctor? Any out of pocket expenses?
You will get nothing for your injured feelings so no point pursuing a claim there.
Decide on what you think the value of your claim is then decide if you want to pursue it further. Your local CAB will give you the name of a local personal injury solicitor for a No win no fee arrangement . Most offer a free first consultation but most will not take your claim on if your potential damages are small

Re: Carradice Sold

A very sad day indeed, I feel very sorry for the staff in Nelson. Great products fantastic service you could wait and watch them repair your bag at a reasonable price.
Are they just buying the name? Don't think for one moment that the quality and service will be the same. Yet another British product being made in the far east with cheap labour?

Re: Tyre Glider

I generally have no trouble getting the tyre back on My problem is getting the bead away from the rim so that I can insert the levers to take it off. I don't think the Glider will help here . The problem is using non tubeless tyres on a tubeless ready rim. You can't move the bead away. I have resorted to using a screwdriver to push the bead away but it does have the habit of damaging the tyre wall.

Re: Rochdale canal towpath

The section between Sowerby and Mytholmroyd is tarmac.
If you follow the canal from Mytholmroyd to Hebden you will have a short road section. However there is a better and more pleasant NCN route that starts by the old fire station at the bottom of the Cragg Vale climb just outside Mytholmroyd. This will take you into Hebden through the park where you can re-join the Canal path.
From Hebden to Todmorden and on to Rochdale it is a mixture of tarmac and hard pack.
You will be ok as long as you ride either 28 inch tyres on a road bike or on a mountain bike
