Can anybody give tips on preparing for all night rides from midnight to morning.
I'm planning to go from Reading to Lymington which is about 70 miles in late September.
My main concerns are what to bring, what lights to use, staying dry, staying awake, and enough energy to get home after the one hour train ride back.

Commuted Membership Expiry Date???

So I took the plunge - as above didn't want to send in a cheque every year, didn't want to set up a DD either. I enjoy reading the mag, and participating in this forum. The insurance gives piece of mind.
My card came back promptly but the valid until date is next year 2013!!! Do they send 'commuted' cards out annually then? Or should I get them to change the date to be valid until 2017?

How do I reassemble Abus TEXKF Mini Bracket
Anyone know how all the bits go back together? Basically I took it off my old bike and suddenly 2 mini black plastic parts came out the barrel area where the strap threads through a metal pin with slot. I just can't work out where the tiny black plastic part - about 4mmx20mm.

Wet weather clothing for long night-rides
I recently bought a new Altura Night Vision Evo jacket in preparation for the London to Brighton Night Ride. I'm just wondering if this will protect me for 3+ hours of wet weather, or should I also carry a poncho as well or a few bin liners?
My clothing checklist will also be Sealskinz socks, neoprene overshoes, Lusso Max Repel tights, Peter storm overtrousers, maybe take a pair of Marrigolds?
With this unpredictable weather we're having, I just don't want to be caught out on such a long ride, as I'm normally a fair-weather rider.

Re: Camcorder and Bracket
When I was researching waterproof camera, I liked the Kodak PlaySport waterproof camcorder.

But after using a tripod that wrapped around the bars, there was too much camera shake.

So I ended up buying a GoPro HD Hero 960 with chest harness.
I have one of these originally clipped to my shoulder strap of the rucksack, but it only lasts for 20mins on full charge!

Re: Anti-puncture inners?
I reccomend using the Panaracer Flataway tyre liners, they are soft so won't cut the inner tube.

But if you don't want to part with £10 per wheel, then I'd go with a pair of Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres. They are heavy but extremely puncture proof.

Smartphone handlebar holder/case
Anyone know of any good generic phone holders to attache to the handlebar stem? I was thinking of an iphone Topeak waterproof case, but I don't have the iphone.
I've got a HTC Legend smartphone that I want to mount to the handlebars, preferably in a waterproof case, just so i can se the map/directions on screen. Using apps such as Endomondo, Sustrans Cycle Network, Google Maps, and CycleStreets.
Dimensions(LxWxT) 112 x 56.3 x 11.5 mm (4.41 x 2.22 x 0.45 inches)

This stuff is scientifically recognised, so much so that India and the USA almost came to have a diplomatic incident when the USA tried to patent their traditional remedy.
So I've bought a bottle to try out on dry skin on my butt. How do you apply this and when? Do you dip your finger in the bottle of oil and smear over the skin, then sit naked till it dries? Or apply and wear cycling shorts before the ride?
And how often to use before seeing results?
This really does stink of something peanutty.

What's the URL for the shopping website? I may give this a go because of the positive reviews.

Re: Tyres 23mm front 25mm rear
I used to ride 23mm front and 38mm back on the hybrid. Too much road buzz made me change to both 38's which is very comfy. I didn't notice any difference in drag or speed, only better comfort in soaking up bumps.
I've also experimented with a huge, fat Schwalbe Big Apple on front and a standard knobbly mtb tyre on back - comfort is better, speed marginally better than both treaded, but susceptible to punctures on the slick Apples.

smallest frame for 700c /29er
I'm looking to swap-out my frameset (17" hybrid with v-brakes) to a 14" frame. But it seems that frames of this size take 24" wheels or 26" wheels. Has any one seen any frames that are ideal for a short 11 year old, and that he would not grow out of?

I totally agree. I accepted that my bike serves a purpose for enjoyment over rough stuff regardless of weight. I've learnt to carry less in the rucksack, and to fill out pockets in my shorts, tops instead. The triangle bag is crammed with the heavier essentials. I'm now riding longer in greater comfort due to lighter rucksack.
I guess you tend to learn how to handle your own bike after a few months and discover how much to push it to limits (if brave enough.)

Re: Frame protection tape
I bought a large sheet from ebay, the thin good stuff variety, it is virtually transparent. I have also got the thick 'self healing' bike protection set pre cut for the mtb, thats really good for rough rides and wrapping chain lock.
