My impression is that most UK rides are on the road. Is this changing?

Re: Kilometers or Miles?
I used to celebrate a birthday by riding the miles that matched the new age. Increasingly long rides in December led to a conversion to kilometres.

We once had a club member who had 5 bikes hanging in the only bedroom of his first floor flat. I know because I was taken up to look at one of them. Not surprisingly he was a bachelor!

Re: Getting to a Ride/ Transporting Your Bike
Like the majority of cyclists in the 1950s I only ever had one bike at a time. This was used for a 5 mile commute, club runs and with another pair of wheels, timetrialling.
Getting married and moving meant a 16 mile cross country commute with no viable public transport so a back up bike was an essential. I bought one from someone who had just got engaged and was giving up cycling..
I rode 10 miles to collect it,, riding home with the new bike alongside, holding it at the centre of the handlebars. Fortunately no hills and not much evening traffic
At one time since I had 5 bikes and 3 trikes in the shed. Now down to an Orbea Gain e-bike and a Spa Audax that I can't bear to part with.

In the 1950s / 60s many of the competitors at Herne Hill track got there by bike, wearing their track bike across their back.

carrying your track tires
