Tied 'in tandem' between the trees to make a hammock. Two longways and a few across. I only need another 2,674 and I'm finished.

Re: Edinburgh to Poole - advice please.
Hello, look at Mick F's End to End route and reverse it - and when you get to Taunton bear left across country to Poole.
Or - and I don't have enough space here - if you want a route from Berwick to Bournemouth PM me and I'll type it out - I used to ride this route regularly when I was younger. It's involved and a bit twisty but works - hope that you can read an OS map!

Re: Touring Holiday Brittany - Ferry and Tour questions
Hello, another plug for Breton Bikes (http://www.bretonbikes.co.uk) or telephone for a brochure on 01579 350379 - sensible, friendly people who will be glad to help you.
You might also like to look at the Brittany Tourist board cycle route guide (http://www.randobreizh.org) and the national Voie Vertes website (http://www.af3v.org) as well.
We have a few other b & b's logged in Brittany, as well as lots of other route knowledge, including the Nantes-Brest canal towpath, so if we can help then please PM us.
kind regards, Braz.

Re: Could'nt find Land's End.....
Si, thank you for your response to my post - obviously you take in all the forums!
In all seriousness, and accepting that yes, we all have to start somewhere - if the bloke really does not have the nous to look at a map to see where he's going to and from, has not thought of Googling the start and finish points, why should he expect people to help him?
Half the fun of a LeJog is the planning - I now go a different way every time for variety (and I'm old enough to remember when the choice of routes were restrictive in Scotland anyway) - and finding new 'old' roads is half the fun!
If it is just a terrible indictment on the 'yoof' of today and their lack of ability and education then I'm very sad - but perhaps not surprised, when I se the way that many of them perform in their daily lives.
Yes, and 'old git' semi-rant probably, but there was a lot to be said for the scouts, the yha, a sturmey-archer, and a canvas tent - character forming, and no batteries required!

Could'nt find Land's End.....
Hello all, it was suggested to me today that there was 'another really good cycling forum, and I ought to have a look'.
So I had a look, spotted 'Land's End to JOG', and the first post said:
"Does anyone know the nearest railway station to Land's End? - I want to do a LeJog next year"
What odds on him finding his way to JOG, then?

Re: OKEHAMPTON TO TAUNTON VIA EXETER?
Okehampton to Taunton via Crediton and Tiverton is bumpier, via Exeter less so. Distance fairly similar. Might depend where you are staying?
I always compromise by going Oke, Cred, Cullompton, Wellington, Taunton. Only one hill that way, just before Cullompton!
Mick will be back from Malta soon and suggest lots of alternatives!
A good DVD on the ride is currently available from www.bicyclebooks.co.uk. Mick's in it too!

Hello, there is a selection of maintenance books available at www.bicyclebooks.co.uk - have a look at their site, and give them a ring - they do try to help if they can! (They are cyclists themselves!)

Re: Obsession withi Lejog. There are MUCH better tours to do.
Hello, 3rd - no, it's not a Labour Party statistic, but a real one - I read it on this Forum somewhere so it must be true.
And who's a naughty boy for giving the game away about the picture of that little incline that I posted - it looks a bit like Gunny Hill to me, except that there are no traffic lights half way up - and I'm [i]sure[/i that's Mick in the middle distance.
Regrettably, we are all different and move at different speeds - so fixed accommodation or feeding points might not work. We get a lot of LeJog'ers sitting outside our office in Callington (benches, a chippy, a bike shop, shops and cafes) some of whom are on day 2, some on day 3, and some lucky to get that far at all and it would be embarrasing to ask how long it's taken them to get from LE! I feed them tea and sympathy when I can, wish them well, and send them on their way - no charge! All welcome - the more, the merrier, I say!
kind regards to all, Braz.
(and just to clear up a small point, cos' I've had some problems with those from 'oop north' - it's pronounced with a long 'a', so it rhymes with braze - not bras!)

Re: Obsession withi Lejog. There are MUCH better tours to do.
Whatever we all think, between 3,000 and 4,000 people will do the ride next year - and why not? For many of them it will be their first long-distance bike ride, and who knows? - they might get 'bitten' and start touring regularly - good on them.
I'll leave you with one reason why it's better to do LE to JOG and not the other way - this charming photograph of Gunnislake hill going South.

Re: Train fares(or not fair)
It's all crazy! Cornwall to Paddington for the Cycle Show last week - Advance fares £38 First Class going up, £56 Standard coming back - logic,I can't see it! A return - wait for it - First Class £422.00, Standard £265.00.
Put these words in order: Dogs, Going, Country, The, To, Is, This. I'm going to vote Social Autocrat next time - or Despotic Benefactor - at least they know how to organise things!

Re: canal towpaths
Hello. That's an easy question - the Nantes-Brest canal towpath in Brittany. About 350km, so well within your scope.
Good book about the towpath from http://www.bicyclebooks.co.uk, see their 'Country Touring' section. Links to accommodation in the area as well.
Lots of b & b around, small hotels, gite D'etapes, and so on. Easy access to Nantes by bus or train, or ferry to Roscoff and access via the Voie Verte route 7.
