Thank you all, folks, and here's another one for you - on a similar vein.
Someone also put up photographs of overloaded bikes - not tourers - does anyone know where this post is, please?
regards to all, Braz.

Heavily Loaded Bicycles
Well, I can't find it! - someone put a link on the forum some while ago regarding heavy loads on touring bikes - and ridiculous loads on other bikes.
Does someone know where it is, please?

Re: How old to do LEtJOG
Hello, we are recently back from France, where we met a family on a cycling holiday - Dad, Mum, daughter 8, son 10, daughter 12, and babies of 2 and less than one in a trailer and on a back seat! They were averaging 50 - 60 km per day with no trouble at all (we were roughtly on the same route and kept meeting them) and the 10 year old boy was often a few km down the road eating his croissants and waiting for his parents!
When my daughter was younger - 13 or 14 - she would easily ride 60 miles a day with me, and could probably have gone on further as well if we had pushed it.
Give your daughter a 'taster' - pick somewhere 40 miles from home with a railway station and have a day out - it will give her a great idea of what to expect.
Have fun! regards to all, Braz.

Re: Gites in Brittany
Hello, try Geoff Husband at www.bretonbikes.com. He has a gite to rent (a little bit higher than central Moriban) at Gouarec, right next to the Nantes-Brest Canal. He also knows of many other places as he runs cycling holidays in the area.
Mention my name to get an instant discount! There are also links to other Brittany accommodation, and to the voie vertes, on our own website which is www.bicyclebooks.co.uk.
Have fun!

Re: Tony Oliver`s book; Touring Bikes.
For what it's worth, we sell copies of this book - in VG conditon - for £30.00, and yes, we do make a small margin on them as we are in business!
Tony is now retired from bikes and has been working as a photographer in the Scottish islands for some while.
The book may be quite old now, but the information in it is still probably the most practical that you can find - anywhere!
kind regards, Braz.

Re: Carry Freedom - losing wheels!
Oh well, another can of worms! It is, however, quite illogical that just because other posters have the same product and have not had problems that they are so defensive in support of their trailer - when one cannot know what their reaction might have been if the problems had been theirs. And guys, before you jump into print do look at the actual timescale involved - just how long should one wait before feeling aggreived and unhappy?
Far more interesting is the post from the Carry Freedom manufacturer, who is now gaining some Brownie points for sorting things out - something that, in his own words, he was not the best at originally. Good for him for being so honest.
It seems to me that a lesson has been learnt - all credit for that - but there is no denying that none of us would have heard of the problem if the service had been better in the first instance. And yes, I'm in business too, so I also know all about response times!
And hopefully this will be the end of the matter!

Re: Carry Freedom - losing wheels!
What a wonderful opportunity for Carry Freedom to show just how good their after sales service is - regrettably it seems, a missed opportunity. Difficult to contact, defensive when contact is made, blaming everyone except himself and his product, and to compound it all he knew that there were problems with a batch of trailers in any case! And the cheeky blighter's sending an Invoice with the spares!
Would it not have been much better if he had immediately said 'I'll send you replacement parts by return - no charge - sorry that you've had a problem'.
I just wonder how many Bob Yaks will now be sold because of this potential problem - would you now buy a used Carry Freedom? - it might just be a duff one!
Brrr Brrr: "Oh, Hello - is that Bicycle Repair Man - I seem to have a problem - can you send a van? And do you do a get-you-home service? - I'm doing a LeJog at the moment.....". Music plays, our hero fades into the distance.

Re: LEJOG on a mountain bike
Oh, experts are they! Get them to read a few of Mick F's posts, indent for a set of stickers and use your own bike - you can sanitise it when you finish!
Of course the ride is possbile on anything - but the bike that suits you best is the one to use. Stickers won't show up as well as a brightly decorated T shirt anyway - or a sponsored cycling top - sounds like your sponsors need some marketing advice. I could put togther a little committee of experts from here on the forum for them for say, £500 a day. Each. Suggest it!

Re: Crediton to Tiverton (Rob's Passage)
Well! - from Thorverton you might as well carry on to Bradninch and Cullompton, and up the old A38 - save having to get from Tiverton to the same place!
One hill over Bradninch, but nothing insurmountable. And a cafe in Cullompton as well!
Mick, just back from France and found your laden/unladen post interesting - cos I had a tent and accompanyments this time, and gentle offroad riding on the Voies Vertes as well (old railway tracks with variable surfaces). Riding a stiff old 1980 Holdsworth with 500 tubes (handy for the weight we carried). Our unsophisticated thoughts were that we averaged a reduction of between 25% and 33% miles travelled (over 1200 km) against my same distance there in June on a 1978 Raleigh Clubman. (Mind you, that is red, so bound to go faster).
Ah, tis good to be back in England, now that summers here!
Lots of traffic, rude motorists, ignorant pedestrians, poor surfaces, cycle lanes - and people wonder why I go to France cycling! Peace and quiet, no traffic, respect from motorists, everyone says 'Bon Jour!' without fail, or 'Bon Courage!' - I really enjoy being a 'veloist' over there!

Re: Leeds - Cannondale Tandem Stolen + 2 other bikes
A bit late I know, but I've just caught your post. Any pictures? - they always seem to help. It might also be worth another post a bit higher up on the site with a link to this one "see stolen" - just to cover all the bases. And do keep a lookout on Ebay, as 'stolens' do appear after a little while, when the blighters think things may have quietened down a bit. Might be worth taking pics to your local bike shops as well.
Small solace for you, but many with sympathise with your predicament - I've had a great old friend of a tourer nicked in the past having carried me for over 50,000 miles over many years - a big beast like most of my frames, so not many could ride it - probably broken up for spares. V. annoying, to say the least about it.
Lets live in hope that you can recover at least one of them!
kind regards, Braz.
