Re: Is This Mick F ??
Mick, good morning - sorry about the personal pic, hope that you are not embarrassed to be unmasked.
I've found something on this box called Microsoft Picture Editor- I had it all the time and did'nt know - and by reducing the number of my pixels I can now upload pictures to this Forum. What I dont yet know is how many pixels equal 256 thingummys - which seems to be the max upload limit. Told you that I was technical.
I recently found this pic of a bent Mercian, and wondered if it was from your Solicitor's files? Not sure how large it will come out, and it's a bit dark as well.
Anyway - apologies once again for taking your image in vain. (I'll be glad when this flu gets better and I can stop being so silly to amuse myself!). It's a real swine, I can tell you!

It's easy to spot a Cornish cyclist - he always has a pasty in his hand, like the 'Pilot' in my Picture!

There we have it then - 100% of you who have replied so far (1) agree that a nude cyclist is easy to spot.

Just heard that things have been updated to include "Bike Hut Man".
Orange 'Y' fronts, with computer and digital output reader, confronted with broken bicycle.
'Nah mate - can't get the parts no more - you'l have to buy a Carrerra'.
Sad, but true.

Hello. Well - I started this post, and don't want to see any more arguments. So there.
Whatever your thoughts on this matter, if anyone really does think that wearing hi-viz does not give you a better chance of being seen - whatever the ability of the driver - please speak now.
Right, no answers have come in, so I must be right
Could a driver spot the cyclist below, do you think?

Oh, good! - the advantages of riding ancient machines! Good to know that both of my current bikes are outside this legislation (and both of my cars are tax free as well!).

2 Tubs - yes, go ahead with your plan - but it's always best in winter to wear hi-viz underpants on Dartmoor. Well-known local custom.

Re: HELMET SURVEY & COMMENTS REQUEST
More car drivers are injured every year, the great majority of serious injuries being head injuries.
Why is no-one doing a survey to see what car drivers think about wearing a helmet all the time? Could it be that we know the answer already?
I've been riding now for over 50 years, and yes - had a few prangs - but I never seem to land on my head, however hard I try to. Shoulder, elbow, knee and hip all get bashed at times, but not my bonce - so if I do ever wear a helmet, which is most unlikely, I shall put one under each shoulder of my shirt.

To become 'illegal' might require the presence of a policeman - and I happen to know that the only one on duty in Cornwall this week is in Redruth - so you ought to be quite safe.

Re: My 'Bucket list'
Hello, Alan. As usual Mick is a sound source of information and common sense - take heed!
I'll add my contribution, for what it's worth - firstly, don't worry! If you like camping, then camp - if you don't, then b & b - simple really! Go on your own - it's less hassle. Don't do it as a fundraiser - do it for you. Watch out for rich widows offering you accomodation. There is a very tried and tested route (see Mick's blog) up out of Cornwall, through Devon and Somerset, before you must decide to either go over the Severn bridge or not - whatever, both routes end up in Warrington! Then the A6 all the way to Carlisle, across to Edinburgh, over the Forth bridge, Perth, Blair Atholl, Aviemore, Carrbridge, to Inverness. Over the bridge and soon you get only the second choice that you have to make on the route! - following the A9 all the way to JOG, or north across the lanes to Bettyhill and across the 'top' to JOG. Dead easy, and if you get lost you can always ask a policeman. If you can find one!
June is a really good time to go - long days and lots of light (and I don't mean cycle long days, just that if you want to start at 4 and cycle til lunchtime you can, or if you have something 'booked' to stay in you can start when you like and cycle on later.
That's enough for you to think about for now - enjoy the planning!
kind regards, Braz.

Re: Touring Advice
Hello, good luck with planning your ride. Keep looking at the 'For Sale' section of this Forum, many decent bikes appear there - and you don't need a brand new, all singing all dancing model either - something that fits you well is much more important than 'image'. Put a post in the 'wanted' section, once you know the size of bike that you need.
Or maybe - go and see Roberts Cycles in Croydon, explain your circumstances, get them to measure you, and see if they have any second-hand bikes that would fit you.
If you are a student then my tourer is at least 10 years older than you are - a 1978 Raleigh Clubman - and I'm at least 3 times your age - and I can just about still manage 800 miles in 14 days - so if I can do it, so can you! I'm off to France next week with the Mrs, and we will have a gentle 3 weeks poodling around and camping - we think no more than 1000 miles - and if you add my age, her age, and the age of the two bikes it comes to 157!
Start cycling, it will become a way of life!
kind regards, Braz.
