Re: Food / Eating on longer rides

I found a recipe for Brac on this forum many years ago, simple to make virtually fat free and a great energy provider
375g dried fruit
250ml cold tea
1 largish egg (that's what the recipe says)
75g brown sugar
250g self raising flour.

Soak fruit in tea overnight. Add Egg, sugar and flour - add flour one spoon at a time while beating so it's smooth
Cook in oven at gas mark 3 or 170 degrees for 1 hour.
I usually add cinnamon or mixed spice for extra flavour

Dawes Galaxy Cross

Does anyone else on here own a Dawes Galaxy Cross. I bought one at a good price back in March but due to back problems and recent spinal surgery I've only ridden it a few miles but found it a nice comfortable ride. I'd be interested to hear any comments from others. I seem to be the only one in the country with one

Re: Bike fit for French canals

I cycled most of the Nantes-Brest canal a few years on a Tricross, friend was on a Bob Jackson Audax. Only problem I had was boredom. Although very scenic it soon becomes monotonous

I'm absolutely certain it will put an end to cycling fatalities, as it will put an end to cycling

This is a problem the early Specialized Tricross suffered from and was cured by fitting an up hanger http://www.evanscycles.com/products/spe ... r-ec068972

Hope they can sort you out yakdiver. I've been told I have two other disks that will need attention some time in the future and will never have full mobility but I'll be happy if they can just get me back on the bike

Spinal Stenosis

I shall be going in for a spinal operation to correct my Spinal Stenosis on Thursday. I know many people say that cycling helps Stenosis but it has kept me off the bike for nearly two years so hoping to be back soon. I have entered our Club 100km Audax in April so hope to be fit enough for that

I'm afraid I agree with Mick F I don't like the look of bodge jobs but that's just a personal opinion. I wouldn't buy a bike with Vee Brakes as I don't like their appearance

Oo - looks good. I have some good mountainwarehouse stuff but have always been wary of their jackets - never examined up close though.

How waterproof and breathable is it?

Must admit i was encouraged by one of the reviews from a mountain runner - surely more strenuous than cycling.

And wetter.

Sorry didn't see your question earlier. I find the jacket very waterproof, on a very wet Audax event some time ago, I was the only one that kept dry deapite some of the others wearing much more expensive kit

Re: Which bike Galaxy Cross 2014 or Reynolds 525 double butt

I don't know anything about the Oxford but I do have a Galaxy Cross. I love it, very comfy but quite heavy. Due to illness I haven't ridden it far yet. Depends what type of touring you are planning, the Galaxy has disk brakes so if you are going anywhere at all remote, that maybe a consideration. Also, the the Galaxy is about half the price, list price £600 but I haggled my way down to £450 at my LBS
