And where democracy falls in all this? Parliament has not mandate to revoke article 50.

If the Liberal Democrats want to revoke article 50 then I'd say let them campaign for a revoke of article 50 on the next General Elections and if they win by overall majority then they would have a mandate to revoke article 50 and any supporter of brexit that believes in democracy should respect the decision.

Isn't their campaign to stop the leave process implicitly a campaign to revoke?

Well they are now campaigning to revoke article 50 but that wasn't the case for the last election, also they are only the third largest political party in parliament, way behind Labour so they have a mountain to climb before they have a mandate to revoke article 50.

If I'm honest, I think this is simply a strategy to attract people that don't want Brexit full stop, by offering something different, the problem is that they are offering to ignore the referendum, like it never happened, while before they were asking for a second referendum but since Labour now also is seeking a second referendum, the Lib Dems need to seek something different. I have a feeling this is going to backfire on them.

Extraordinary.......it's as if the SNP with 35 seats simply did not exist.

Well.....it doesn't work that way.

We already know that reducing working time may result in increased production and that to suggest that more hours equals more learning is misleadingly simplistic.

The funny thing is that once I stopped going to school I started to be happier and to learn better. One day at the Technical College and four at work really suited me - in fact it was the best experience of education that I’ve ever had. We all have a pace at which we can assimilate knowledge but unfortunately the education system as is doesn’t accommodate that sufficiently.

What length the optimum school or working week is is something that I don’t know, but as it will vary between individuals one size fits all will have to do. My suspicion is that four focused days of work are more efficient than five, but I’m also fairly sure that if we all changed to that way of doing things then we’d soon discover it was flawed too.

The education system is littered with inconvenient truths, and the first of these is that children should not be introduced to formal education at the age of four or five years of age. Children will learn better if this is delayed to six or later, in common with other European countries as children will then learn more efficiently and more quickly as their brains have now developed sufficiently to cope with formal education. The whole paraphernalia of testing and academic qualifications need to be overhauled and something similar to the Finnish model should be adopted which has been proved to be a resounding success. In addition, teachers should be carefully selected, highly qualified and trained, and they then should be left to create an education programme without interference from Government. Again, it should be recognised that there is no correlation between the school educational qualifications achieved and the quality of the subsequent university degrees.
As has been already suggested, a parallel path of vocational training should run in parallel with the academic one which should be porous and allow easy transfer from each to the other.....I see it as important that this vocational path should enjoy a similar status to the academic stream, as it does in Germany. This would militate against the vast amount of waste in the present system whereby students drop out in the early years of university.

Thats only a problem if you insist it has to work 100% rather than as a work in progress? What degree of porousness would be acceptable? The EU says none? .......................

For those who believe that there exists a technical solution to the backstop problem....we have this.

"All potential solutions to the post-Brexit Irish border are fraught with difficulty and would leave smaller businesses struggling to cope, experts have said, as leaked government papers outline major concerns just two months before Britain is due to leave the EU."

Re: Cycling related male personal problem

Before I stopped cycling I used to swear by Udder cream, usually sold in farm supply shops. This contained a powerful bacteriacide, castor oil, and various other ingredients to soothe the skin. In over thirty years I never had any problems with chafing.......and as a bonus, my milk production went up. 8)

Yes I do.
And yes, cycling in traffic carries risks. You'd have to be an idiot to think otherwise.
And as a grown up I'm happy to accept personal responsibility for my own safety and actions, I take precautions I feel are sensible for me to take rather than crying at everyone else about victim blaming like a pathetic child.

Ah now, this thread was all going swimmingly with each poster treating the others with proper respect until the slur I highlighted. This does seem to be the predictable response when the remorseless grinding of logical arguments takes effect....pity though.

I do remember Dryside Road looking like the photo but that was years ago when it had been newly surfaced.

My understanding is that it is now a bit worse for wear, but that it still is possible to be used by road bikes.

This link should help as the members use the route regularly.

Great thread Brucey.......some images from the French competitions for French bicycle builders way back then would be pretty special. Some were beautiful machines and deserve to be more widely seen, though I'm aware that they do feature in an expensive book I've seen.

Yes.......well that just might be a problem as we here in Scotland see the people of Scotland as the ultimate authority, and not that ragtag band of Tory chancers and unprincipled opportunists.

To speak of any political party as "not allowing" Scottish Independence reeks of unspeakable arrogance.
