Re: What's going on Winstanleys!

That's a shame I have always found Winstanley's service very good. I'm sure they would appreciate some feedback from you if they're getting it wrong

Orro bikes

As things stand we won’t be spending the winter in Spain I therefore reasoned that I needed a winter bike.
I had a list of things I wanted around £1,500, hydraulic disc brakes mudguard and rack fittings lightweight ability to fit wide tyres and low gearing. (I would have liked a Cannondale Topstone but none were available and out of my budget range.)
My shortlist quickly became two Kinesis or Orro.
I decided against a one ring gravel bike set up as I reasoned I would be using it more on the road and possibly double up as an audax bike.
Kinesis had several, very good, different specifications all in my range although the frames were alu.
Orro on the other hand had a carbon frame good speciation’s and came up around budget, so I bought an Orro Terra C HYD 7000 Adventure bike.
It was on offer at Chain Reaction (although I could have gone over to Winstanleys in Wigan who were offering both the Kinesis and Orro.)
I have completed 500 miles on it and am very pleased. I had to make a few adjustments to the set up but the ride and versatility is very good.
Excellent customer service from Orro in Surrey and Chain Reaction

Re: Dupuytren's contracture

Mick I have this condition but its not as far advanced as yours. At the moment it is not hindering my cycling or playing golf (that has always been bad!) Mainly cosmetic
I think I've been able to slow down the spread of this ailment by trying to massage and stretch out my fingers and back of the hand. I usually find this helps to stretch out the tendons a little although yours appears to have gone too far for this.
I am not considering surgery at the moment as I have heard that the condition can return so I am waiting until it get worse, but not as bad as yours.

So you have my sympathy 1. for the condition and 2. for the lousy service given to you by your doctors surgery. Very much the same up here . The surgery is virtually closed and there's a wall built around the doctors by the receptionist ( and they're going to be given another £150 million for the vaccination scheme) We couldn't get in to get in for our flu jabs we had to go to the pharmacist!

Please keep posting and let us know how you go on as I'm sure a lot of us will be interested.

No. But how to adjust it depends whether you have Ahead or threaded/quill stem?

Re: Evans Cycles poor customer service

To give them credit I have always found the shop at the Velodrome to be very helpful. But I wonder why their service has dipped? Could it be anything to do with their recent takeover by.....?

Re: Cycle training for all!

+ For Si.
I totally agree. Having been a Bikeability instructor for over 15 years I'm now packing it in!
I'm not prepared to accept all the new rules, responsibilities and re-train for the "new " qualification for £60 a day.
I know lots of instructors of the same mind. The kids are great and the job can be very rewarding but until we get a decent days pay for the job then I'm going to spend more time riding and no time instructing

I like the New Forest but I've already made plans for this year. Is it on the same time each year?

Re: Improving prformance in elderly.

You're doing really well, don't beat yourself up! We have a vets ride in our club with a few over 80's speed is not a part of it, its just being out in the fresh air and enjoying the company. You'd be welcome on any of my audax events 200 or 100 we'd have no problems waiting till you'd finished. Keep riding.

Re: To the lighthouse – one of the UK’s toughest bike rides

A magical place one of the highlights of my End to End. I spent the night in the bothy. Some kind soul had left half a bottle of Rose wine and a packet of salted peanuts.
Getting on and off the the track from boat was an epic

Re: Costa Tropical vs Girona

Benidorm has active cycling cycling groups all winter. Good routes nice weather cheap accommodation and in-expensive food.
For something a little flatter but with same conditions try south of Alicante in the Murcia area.
Both have better winter climates than Girona much more scope and a lot cheaper.
I've noticed there are lots of coaches coming out from Eastern Europe but not sure about Poland.

The Airport was Charleroi. The picture and notifications they were displaying came direct from Ryan Air

Re: CTC Bike bags: Dublin airport and Ryanair

Thanks I will mail them. Exactly what did you ask them?. Did you send them any details, pictures of what a plastic CTC bag was.
I am being very cautious as on my last attempt to travel back with a CTC plastic bag , behind the check-in desk they had photos of a CTC plastic bag, they were crossed out as not being acceptable, and I was told that these weren't allowed!
