Benn to Girona many times and cycling is good. Try the greenways. The 2009 link below has a mapped ride to Peratellada and I would recommend the accommodation there. Photos here http://arwallace.com/index.php?q=galler ... emId=79787

Another option would be to stay in Estartit and do cycles every day. Lots of routes round nice villages.

My trip along the canal is documented here http://arwallace.com/2007/canaldumidi The canal got boring after a while and the continual cycling over tree roots was tedious so we went inland on the roads.

Re: Ryanair: Visa Electron charge starts January 2010
if you buy a sterling fx anywhere card they charge you 1.5% of the transaction - which on a 1p flight is nothing....on a £10 flight is 15p so not bad.
not had a problem with the fairfax website
charge details here https://www.fairfx.com/whatitcosts

Re: Ryanair: Visa Electron charge starts January 2010
anyone know how I can get the Ryanair prices to display in Euros? I am thinking of getting the new mastercard debit card ( the Electron replacement) for Ryanair - the Fairfax (http://www.fairfx.com/travelcardl) seems best but you have to pay in Euros.

Re: cycle hire in toulouse
I would suggest you fly home from Toulouse. In my experience very few companies facilitate cycling from A to B and then picking up the bike from B without some expensive fee. It's always cheaper to take the train and bike back to A. Of course if you have loads of money you can go on a tour that has a van with your luggage following you....
Maybe you could fly into Carcassone hire a bike there and then take the train to Toulouse?

Thanks
There are courses run in Edinburgh but there just hasn't been one for a long time. Hopefully the Scottish Government will do something with their new Cycling Action Plan which I see Aberdeen replied to; http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/s3/co ... ponses.htm

megilleland wrote:There is also another range of maps produced by the Institut Cartografic de Catalunya covering the Pyrenees range and includes part of the Garrotxa volcanic area. Published since 2005 under the title "Mapa excursionista/Carte de randonnees" and produced at 1:50 000 scale they show mountain bikes trails, footpath routes, refuges and campsites. The one that covers the Olot & Ripoll area is "No 20 Puigmal - Costabona - Nuria - Caranca - Volcans de la Garrotxa".
There are 25 maps covering the whole range, each includes a large part of the French side of the mountains. I noted this map in the Hereford Map Shop at £10.99, but you can buy it in Spain for 7.81 euros.
Thanks very much for all your assistance - been away so not had a chance to reply.

Is there a reason you are scanning them and not just taking the maps? You might be interested in this link http://sigpac.mapa.es/fega/visor/ Where is the best place to buy a map? ( I should maybe google this!)
I understood there were some circular routes round the volcanic area that took in some of the best sights as well as a visit to a volcanic cone. Might try the tourist office.

Re: Catalunya trip
Spent 3 days in the Garrotxa volcanic park/Pyrenees area NE of Girona, then a day trip to the coast
Do you have any more info about the three days going round the volcanic area? We are going cycling there in November. Not found a lot on the internet. If you have maps or guides woudl be prepared to buy them off you. Have been to Olot before but never went to volcanic area.
Cheers
