Unusual Raleigh Record Sprint frame number?

Postby SRV » 22 Oct 2019, 12:04pm

I've just bought what I think is a Raleigh Record Sprint aero frameset. It has been overpainted twice, so all transfers/decals have been obscured. The frame number is NM300050 indicating that it was built in September 1983, I believe (there appear to be only 6 digits rather than the usual 7), and it has an old-fashioned looking headbadge attached with three rivets. Any ideas?

I forgot to mention that the rear dropouts have an old of 120mm as opposed to the usual 126mm. I haven't checked the frame alignment, so this could be a result of damage/impact.

Did the Record Sprint do an aero frame? I had the Pulsar which did but don’t remember a RS one. I own a RS myself now. Lovely bike.

there was an 'aero' variant, had gold or silver lettering IIRC

I had a 1990 RRS R501, my first half decent bike that i immediately went touring on not a few days after buying from the shop. Fitted me like a glove, she was 24lbs bang on in a 23.5" (maybe a 24) Came with some lovely pedals that were made by a Spanish motorcycle parts maker (Tucson or Tuscon?) and had a similar toe clip mount to a Campagnolo variant so you could increase the length of foot it would fit.
Did me for many tens of thousands of mile in all weathers, frame was still in good order when I sold it on after 11 well used years.
No idea what the frame number was though.
